1993 Nissan Sunny DLX 2.0 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Reliability personified

Faults:

Sunroof leaked after 5 yrs.

Shock absorbers (rear) after 6 years, 96000 miles.

General Comments:

This has been so reliable.

It still has the original clutch and exhaust after 107000 miles.

Never fails to start and pulls well, but not the fastest. Handling could be better.

Mid 40 mpg whatever sort of driving.

Second hand low milers with service history would be good first cars.

1993 Nissan Sunny Gti 2.0 16v petrol from UK and Ireland

Faults:

I've had the car 18 months and nothing has gone wrong with it.

General Comments:

I bought the car as standard, even then it was quick. I have had some mods done to the engine, the suspension uprated and fitted 17 inch wheels. The car now has 200 bhp, does 0-60 in 6 seconds and 145 mph. I would recommend one to anybody.

1993 Nissan Sunny SLX 2 door hatchback 1.4 petrol from Portugal

Faults:

35000 Km - right front window elevator not working properly (window got stuck).

General Comments:

Very much reliable.

Very good 16V 1.4 engine.

Continental tyres are not good for wet weather conditions.

Gearbox good for economy, but not so good for performance (very long ratio).

About the gearbox:

I love it that way... It's very reliable and it's what gives an excellent acceleration performance...

Excellent 2nd and 3rd shifts..

About the right front window:

I got the same problem but the repair can be done by yourself... just a little bit of oil.

1993 Nissan Sunny GTi 2.0e petrol from UK and Ireland

Faults:

Nothing. Still running strong and pulling hard at 110k miles. Only new parts bought since 10k miles are a clutch, brake pads, tyres and a distributor cap.

General Comments:

Extremely quick for a 2 litre, with handling to match. Great lift off oversteer ability. Little bit poor on traction in wet, but then it only has 14" wheels. Generally a great car, only a GTI-R would replace it as the best hot hatch available.

1993 Nissan Sunny SGX Automatic 1.6 petrol from UK and Ireland

Faults:

So far, after 5 years and 100,000km, nothing has gone wrong.

General Comments:

I am very satisfied with my Sunny, I have gone through many American and European cars and this is the first one that all I was concerned about is finding the keys. The only change I made is wider tires, something which really improved the ride.

I couldn't agree more! When running on gasoline, it consumes a bit more, though!

1993 Nissan Sunny LX 1.4 petrol from UK and Ireland

Faults:

Had three sets of front tyres up to 37K. Tracking problem on the car that the dealer could not resolve, meant the car was vague and felt like it was driving on ice all the time. Nothing else.

General Comments:

Good Spec, but boring trim levels, horrible cloth on the inside and typical ugly Japanese interior styling. Car was faultless other than the steering which was a shame because it spoiled the vehicle. Glad to get rid of it.

I have had also had problems with the Nissan Sunny, with the tracking out a lot which still is not sorted, and steering problems.

Paintwork is not very good and a CV joint needs to be replaced.

I have had the Nissan sunny for 3 months now, and have also had a few problems with the tracking and the steering is heavy (mainly when parking.) other than that the car gets from point A to point B with no problems. I get about 290 miles to the tank. had problems with the gear box, and replaced it with a second hand one. seems to work like a dream again. pity about the cars looks.

6 Out Of 10.

If your looking for a first car, stick with an escort.

I have also had steering and stacking problems. I think its pretty safe to say that the Nissan sunny can be quite prone to it :(

Not the car for me I'm afraid.

Style needs a bit of a makeover too!!

These cars are incredibly reliable. I have had no problems with steering or tracking and I think that it may just be poor maintenance that causes these problems. Don't forget that at this age, nearly 13 years old, there can be no guarantees that previous owners will have cared for the car!
