1999 Oldsmobile Alero GL 2.4L 4 cylinder. from North America

Summary:

A lot of Car for the price

Faults:

Idler Pulley 2 times 90M & 135M.

Drivers seat back really worn metal bars hurt.

Sentry Key System had to be worked on at about 90M.

136M after getting my oil changed they said everything was good, I got going and about 100 miles later there I was in a parking lot and couldn't move, the Left tie rod end snapped, so I called the place because they didn't grease it like they said they did!

Transmission shifts kind of hard sometimes, but drives fine.

General Comments:

FUN to drive!!!

Great acceleration.

I like the multi-colored interior.

Great gas mileage! 2.4L engine is very reliable.

1999 Oldsmobile Alero GLS 3.4 from North America

Summary:

Junk. Report problems to the NHTSA!!!

Faults:

Bought my 1999 Alero GLS brand new.

Replaced:

- Hub/wheel bearings twice.

- Head gasket once.

- Power steering pump.

- Water pump.

- Front coil springs (one broke in half while backing out of the garage).

- Currently in shop this week, getting a hose replaced, which is leaking coolant onto the heater core, causing my whole car to smell of syrup.

- Driver's side window regulator broke.

- AC/Heater blower has hardly any power.

General Comments:

Piece of crap. I suggest everyone report their problems to the NHTSA, so we may be able to get compensated for all the costs that come with purchasing our American made Alero.

Here's a link to file a complaint to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

1999 Oldsmobile Alero from North America

Summary:

Not a good buy, leave at the dealership

Faults:

Low tire pressure always come on when starting the car.

The security light comes on while driving. The security light will blink and usually the car will not start for about 15 minutes after the light quit flashing.

The motor had to be taken out to replace something with the transmission.

The cost to repair this car is outrageous. I will never buy another American made car. I do understand today why the car industry is in trouble in America, because of poor quality and outrageous repairs.

1999 Oldsmobile Alero LX 2.1 from North America

Summary:

Nice Car

Faults:

The only problems with my Alero is that the wheel bearings need replacing every year. I drive approx 50 000 kms a year, so I really don't mind the upkeep to the bearings and brakes.

General Comments:

The car is great on fuel and has never let me down during the past 250 000 kms. Cars need to be maintained properly to avoid costly expenses. Change your oil and service your brakes and the car is a dream.

1999 Oldsmobile Alero GLS from North America

Summary:

Any car will always have trouble

Faults:

When I first bought the car, the intake manifold was leaking. Thankfully I got it back to the used car dealership and they fixed this for free. Since then it has been nothing, but oil changes. I do need to fix the front wheel sensor (which I damaged driving through 2 feet of water) this will cost $400 with labor. I also need to fix the drivers side power window (this will cost $300 according to others on this site). That's about $700. I can live with that per year of service. I think you must expect to make repairs to a car or your just silly. I take good care, and get it checked every oil change every 3000 miles. I think I got lucky because the engine manifold was repaired under warranty.

General Comments:

I have owed this car for a year and less than 15k miles. So far I will need to make $700 on repairs. I hope next year will be better, but only time can tell. Heres to hoping that I take good care of it, and it will last me through my 3 more years of car payments I need to make. *only $170 a month:)
