2001 Oldsmobile Alero 2.4 from North America

Summary:

This car should be recalled

Faults:

Everything I have read above has happened to me. Now we are having a hard time starting the car. The fuel system is fine as well as the spark and intake. After a little ether the car finally started. We are also having issues with the seals in the doors. I will sell this as soon as I can. I will buy a ford before I buy another GM car.

You cannot use ether in a gas engine they are not designed for it. This action will blow the head right off the block. I have to question a review by someone who would do this. It suggests to me that this car may not have had the most realiable or proper maintenance.

2001 Oldsmobile Alero from North America

Summary:

I despise this car with every fiber of my being

Faults:

Automatic window motor went out ($650 to replace)

Fan knob stopped working ($400 to replace)

CD player broke three times, has been replaced twice.

Lights in the dash come on randomly even when there is nothing wrong.

There is one usable cup holder in the entire car

Mpg has been decreasing steadily.

General Comments:

This car was something of an emergency purchase and really only worked for a few months after I bought it. I change the oil religiously and take it in for checkups often, aside from the usual state-required inspection once a year. I have had nothing but problems from this car, including having to replace an extremely expensive window motor. I found out later that this is a fairly common problem with this car. The CD player broke within 2 months of buying the car, so I had it replaced, and it broke again a year later. It was replaced again, and broke again, so I gave up. There are ongoing and mysterious electrical problems with this car. For example, the lights in the dash come on with no particular pattern, currently my car is telling me my tires are underinflated, even though they have been repeatedly checked. The rear passenger window is leaking air, the seats are uncomfortable for long car trips, and the oil is difficult to check, you have to lean all over the engine to get to it.

The only things I like about this car is that the radio tells me what is playing on various stations, and it is possible to lock or unlock the car from inside my house.

My current oldsmobile (68 Olds 98) has 382,600 miles and still runs strong.. no wonder oldsmobile went under they built total SH!T past 1984.

While I agree the 1960's Oldsmobiles were reliable, the same cannot be said about those made in the 1970's. New safety and fuel economy standards caught American automakers offguard so they forewent quality for quantity.

Summary:

Head on and still here.. great cars!!!

Faults:

None.

General Comments:

A great and very reliable car. Fast comfortable and great value for the money. Seems and drives like a more expensive and more luxury car. Great handling and very comfortable. 90000 miles no problems at all just services. Very low cost to maintain. Had a 1999 model and had a head on collision, walked away with a few scratches... so is very safe too!

2001 Oldsmobile Alero GLS 2.4 - 4 cylinder from North America

Summary:

Runs great, inexpensive to own

Faults:

The power steering pump began making noise under load when car had about 20k on it. Dealer replaced under warranty, no problems since.

Front wheel bearing assembly is now starting to make some noise, 140,000 miles on it.

Stereo system has a gremlin that lives inside it. Has the 200 watt system from the "moon & tunes" package. Sound awesome. Most of the time it works great, sometimes refuses to take a CD, but eventually goes in. Strangest thing is that it will change tracks, switch to radio, change volume, or even turn off, when stopping for a few minutes, like running into the store for 10 minutes. Got me. No major problem, just hope the gremlin enjoys the ride.

General Comments:

Overall, an excellent car. Gas mileage is 28-32. Not real fast off the line, but it loves the highway. At 65 mph it is just at the bottom of the power curve, touch the pedal and zoom.

Just installed my 3rd set of tires, 140K and still on the 2nd set of brake pads.
