2001 Oldsmobile Alero GL 3.6 from North America

Summary:

Complete waste of money!!

Faults:

I purchased the car with 41,000 miles on it, and at 42,000 miles the head gasket went out.

The siding on the doors scratches very easily and is falling off.

At 57,000 miles the starter went out.

At 58,000 miles the spark plug coil started on fire causing the spark plug wires also to catch fire and be replaced. Costing me $300.00.

And now at 59,000 miles I am no longer getting any voltage to my rear turn signal.

General Comments:

I have never been so disappointed in a car in my life.

It is a constant repair waiting to happen.

Every time I get it out of the shop it is going back in or having other problems.

The sensors are very sensitive. The low tire pressure light is on constantly when the tire pressure is correct.

Overall the car is the biggest waste of money I have ever seen.

Same Problem with Tire pressure light. Also, at 42,000 miles master cylinder is gone and caused car accident due to brake failure. this is a 2002.the 1st "new car" I ever purchased. I had a 88 Olds Cutless with over 300,000 miles on it that was still running great. i trusted the oldsmobile name. I am devasted!!!

I also have had the Low Tire Pressure light problem and they "fix" it and it comes right back on.

Sounds like you got a lemon. I have had my 5 speed 4 cylinder alero for a while now and it runs great. Maybe you should of had a carfax done on it first.

I bought a new 2001 Olds Alero GL back in Jan 01. The car had 5 miles on it when I bought it. Now five and a half years and over 150,000 miles I am still driving it everyday. I have replaced the brakes twice and had the turn signal lever replaced free of charge by the dealer. But other than that I have had five and a half years of problem free driving. I should mention that my power steering pump is starting to go out, but considering the mileage that is to be expected. I have been very happy with my Alero and plan on driving it for a few more years.

Summary:

Overall a Best Buy

Faults:

All windows and motors have been replaced. Glass was scratched as a result of defective motors and belts.

New front rotors and new front pads.

New Sun Roof.

Radio changed 2 times.

Blower control replaced 2 times.

General Comments:

All repairs where covered under warranty, except the front brake pads.

Dealer replaced all items without arm twisting.

Thankful that the alero came with a 5year 50,000 bumper to bumper.

Overall this car rides and drives smoothly. Kicks BUTT in the N.E. Ohio

Snow.

With all of the many car options (Loaded) extended warranty, Olds loyalty cash, and the use of GM Card Points=Cash= No other vehicle deal comes close. All makes and models will have lemons, but my experience with my Olds dealership has been first cabin. Of course that doesn't mean I would bend over again in 2 years, WOULD AT LEAST LIKE TO LAY DOWN.

2001 Oldsmobile Alero GL2 3.4 from North America

Summary:

Lacking quality

Faults:

Driver mirror shook at speed, motor replaced. Driver mirror lense fell off, lense replaced. Mirror still shakes.

Front brakes wore out at 19,000 with 80% highway miles.

Brakes groan and when I need to hit the brakes hard, a thud can be heard/felt under the driver's floorboard.

Major squeak in dash, been to dealer twice and still squeaks. Another squeak somewhere under the dash.

Intermittent hard start problem.

Trade-in value is disturbing.

General Comments:

I do like the performance and styling, but this car has too many problems. May likely trade it this spring for an Acura RSX.
