My power window will not go down on the driver's side. I have no idea what's wrong with the car, but seeing previous comments, it seems to be a common problem. Unfortunately my warranty just expired. What luck!

I have a 2000 Alero GLS.. The 3 year warranty just ran out, and the driver's side window will NOT go down.. When I push the button, nothing happens. It sounds like the electrical system is trying to do something, but nothing happens. I'm very disappointed. I just started researching the problem on line and I see it is a big problem with others as well. My father has a 2000 Chevy Impala and he had the exact same problem! (But he had it fixed under warranty) I think GM is installing defective motors for these window units.

Well, I just started to research to see if the motors going out in Aleros was a common thing. As of the past two months all four of my windows have not worked. The back ones will fall down and the front ones will not go up or down. And of course I do not have it under warranty. Its 200-400 dollars for each window. This should have been a recall or something.

I have had my Alero for about a year and have had to replace the drivers side window motor. Recently the passenger side window stopped working also.

They need to make this a recall item. Please email GM if you are experiencing this problem to prompt them to do a recall!!!

I have 2000 Olds Alero with re-occurring driver side window problem. Broken Regulator is always the Diagnosis. Facts: Car Bought Dec 99. 1st repair: 46k miles, Dec 2001. 2nd repair: 57k miles, Sept 2002. Cost $250 plus labor = approx $450. Luckly 2nd time was under warranty. Guess what? Same door broke again last week for the third time. 75k miles, Dec 2003. Lucky me.

I was doing research to see if common problem and I came across this. So why not a recall?

I am working on my sister-in-laws 2000 Alero as I type this. I tracked the problem to the driver's side window motor. I was attempting to find a replacement motor online when the first site on my google search was this one... I'm guessing my diagnosis is correct. Where are you GM??? I will stick with my Honda, thank you very much.

My wife has a '99 Oldsmobile Alero, and we spent about $500 getting the driver's side window fixed (bad motor/regulator like everyone else), how frustrating!!! Now, 8 months later, the passenger window is doing the same thing!! I HATE this car and cannot stand to buy American cars. Americans need to get their act together, and until they do, I will happily buy only the quality imports. Anyone want to buy an Oldsmobile Alero?? This is the last time I'm fixing these dang windows... I'm selling the car the first chance I get.

My wife and I bought a new Alero in 2000. It is a good car, but would not purchase again unless GM can solve their electrical performance issues. After 3 weeks, our service engine light came on. Dealer said it was a glitch, after 2 days of fixing it came on again and has been on since. After a year, our cruise control went out, then our turn signals worked intermittently (current recall). And now we are having electrical problems with the drivers side window. Please GM, recall this vehicle for the drives side window! and please review the electrical performance.

Thanks,

I have a 2002 Oldsmobile Alero, I've taken it into the shop four time for momentary loss of Power Assist while it was still under warranty. Now my warranty is up and I'm still having the same problem that hasn't been resolved. I'm so sick of taking it in and not having any resolved.

I have a 99 alero and have had similar problems. The plastic on the rear window tracks will crack making the regulator useless. I have fixed mine to work by pinning my cord. The windows that are stuck may be a simple fix. If you feel inclined take your door panel off and take off the window motor. See if it works off the regulator. Sometimes they just jam up. If it spins off the regulator put it back on and the window will work. I have had to do this a couple times with my front and back window, but I have never replaced the motors. I think that the teeth may get stuck.

Well, I guess I'm not alone. I find it interesting that there are so many of us that share these problems. The vinyl-like material on my dashboard has also lifted and began to curl up. My passenger side window is currently inoperable; a PLASTIC piece that holds the window up broke. My husband had to put a piece of wood under the window to hold it up temporarily. Coincidently enough my driver side window quit today, same problem. I called GM today sure that there had to be a recall on this apparent problem; to my surprise, nothing. I have been nothing, but disappointed in my 1999 Alero. Four days after purchasing it my catalytic converter was glowing cherry red, and my car died leaving my stranded (of course it was under warranty). One month after that it was back in the shop because my driver side seat wouldn't go up or down. A few weeks later some sort of leak in a hose under the hood. I attempted to return the car because I was convinced it was lemon, but shocked to learn the same thing would have to go wrong with the car 3 times in the first year!!! It is sad that manufacturers are able to use cheap parts and there is no protection for us the consumer.

I had my driver's side window repaired on my 2000 Alero GLS about six months ago. My check engine light came on as a glitch around that same time. I have also had my power steering tube replaced twice within a four month period. Then just this week, my pass-lock system had to be replaced (a $525 job). I love the look of my car, and if it weren't for all these problems I would love to keep it. I've learned my lesson to fully research a car before buying it.

I googled "window alero" and this is the first site that popped up. I went to roll my window down this morning, heard a pop, and the next thing I know the window slides into the door. Glad to know I'm not alone, but why no recall?

Typed in Alero problems and this site came up. Looks like a lot of the same problem. My wifes driver side window will not roll down. Emailed GM, but have not heard back yet. If anyone has replaced the motor themselves post up how.

Funny that I found this page, My 2002 Alero the passenger window kept getting stuck then One day I was driving and oops the driver side window fell in. Then last night as I drove home my passanger side window fell in as well. There is obviously something screwy with the car.
