I just bought a 1976 Olds Cutlass Brougham with 28,000. Stock 455 three speed auto, but limited with options AC and AM/FM radio, no other options. Garage keep all those years and driven occasionally. I'm curious how many Broughams had the 455 option. Anyone know? Pacop03@aol.com.

There are very few 1976 Cutlasses with the 455. Maybe no more than a few hundred.

The '76 Cutlass was a nice car. I'd rather have a '76 Trans Am 455 4-speed myself though. I'd put that as the best of American cars for 1976.

I have owned a 1976 Cutlass Supreme with the 455 Rocket engine and a TH400 Trans for 9 years now. I bought it with 49,000 miles on it, and now it's got 51k on the clock.

It was special ordered with the 455, 8 track, rear defrost, rally wheels, white lettered radials, landau top, tilt sport steering wheel, cruise control, and black vinyl bucket seats WITHOUT a console. I have not seen another with this combination before.

BTW, less than 5% of these cars were equipped with the 455 engine. However they made hundreds of thousands of them, so there were a fair number of them that were equipped with Big Blocks engines. How many are left? That is a different story.

But gas was only .79 a gallon, so burn it!

I never cared what fuel has ever cost in any classic or sports car. If I did, there would be no fond memories of a big American V8, 2 door. Buckets, console and a manual 4 speed, 6 speed or 7 speed manual transmission as the years progressed. I used to fill up with Sunoco 260 or Super Shell and add a can of 104 octane booster at each and every fill up. Now I only need 93 octane fuel with the crummy 10 percent ethanol that requires a bottle of Startron.
