Now, I own both a 2003 106 GTi and a 2003 VTS (both standard in appearance and performance). The GTi is the quicker 0 – 60 but the GTi lacks in top end compared to the VTS. I’ve done countless timings for both cars and have got around the 6.6 sec mark for the GTi, and about 6.9 for the VTS. Due to working in a Citroen garage i’ve got easy access to a rolling road, the figures it gave out are 7.3 for the GTi and 7.7 for the VTS. They both seem more realistic and believable.

For the top end, on the GTi dials i’ve seen a little over 135, i’d say about 136, and for the VTS I have seen the needle touch 140.

Again I stuck both cars on the road, and the GTi only managed 124 mph, and the VTS 127. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but I have to admit that my own taken times and speeds were far from correct. But people telling me that the GTi takes 8.5 seconds to get to 60, and couldn’t be any quicker without heavy mods can keep their opinions to themselves.

But I do agree that without heavy mods, (not just an exhaust and induction kit) it would be hard to shave more than 0.3 seconds off of the 0 - 60 times.

I to own a 106 gti, have done for 3 years.

I can tell you that as "standard", timed by gps not a crappy little wrist watch, that no quicker than 8.42 sec to 60mph has been done, a few of my friends also own 106 gti s with roughly the same results when timed with proper gear! So please grow up little boys with the overblown claims, they are quick cars, but not that quick.

To be honest they "feel" a damn sight quicker than they "actually are" probably due to being so tinny!

But hey, I still love mine.

Well I've got a GTi, with a ecotech valve, lifetime long exhaust and a pipercross air filter, 0-60 in roughly 6.8 seconds. I can get 120mph in 4th gear. When it reaches 127mph it starts to gradually go up in speed, on a little down hill I got 138mph out of it.

I am on my second GTi and just love the car. A proper driving experience. To those people who are saying "grow up" and not believing the car is capable of a 7 second 0-60, have you ever tested it? My first car I timed a few runs, and all came out on average 7.2 seconds. - I could not believe this myself at first. That was with a friend in the car too. Yes of course it's possible just by getting a performance exhaust, straight through pipe, filter that this time will hit the late 6's.

My max is 130 down the motorway, but didn't think faster was possible unless you fitted cams or had 10" wheels and your speedo was lying!
