2001 Peugeot 206 LX 1.4cc from Dominican Republic

Summary:

It's a unreliable car don't buy (High Cost Maintenance)

Faults:

The engine started giving problems at 3,000 KM.

The interior light blew at 15,000 KM.

The Odometer stopped working at 32,000 KM.

The right door jammed at 42,000 KM.

General Comments:

The handling of the car is good, very comfortable for its class I think this is the only positive thing that the car has. Let's go with the bad things 1) the maintenance of the car is way too expensive. 2) The customer service is really bad in Dominican Republic in addition to that they charge too much for all the services and parts (Compare to other car concessionary). 3) Gas consumption to high for its engine.

2001 Peugeot 206 XSi 1.6 petrol 16v from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Good car, nice handling warm hatch.

Faults:

No major problems with the car so far.

Passenger front seat mechanism broke and was replaced under dealer warranty.

Door seal was replaced under dealer warranty as whistling was experienced at over 80mph. Fine now.

Brake fault while driving the car hard. Both brake warning lights and ABS warning came on, ABS turned off. After engine was turned off and back on again lights were gone and ABS worked, took to dealer and engine computer fault codes were cleared, no problems since.

General Comments:

The car has nice performance from a standard 1.6 engine, however high engine speeds are required to achieve this performance. Certainly good for only group 8 insurance.

Suspension is firm - but not uncomfortable. This gives the car reasonably responsive handling. Handling is fairly safe, under-steers slightly in the wet when turning in (aggressive driving), but most of the time under extreme driving I experience some safe progressive over-steer (not particularly twitchy).

Seat adjustment is a negative point, it has a adjustment in increments rather than continuous, for my preference the setting I would prefer sits in the middle of two settings.

2001 Peugeot 206 GLX 1.6 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Great, but uncomfortable

Faults:

Climate Control is a bit strange - seems to blow either hot or cold, not just comfortably warm : (

Strange crumpling sound on acceleration when cold - dealer couldn't rectify.

General Comments:

Performance is good, a 1.6 engine in this car gives great power, yet returns 50 mpg+ quite easily too.

The standard 6CD changer is a big bonus too.

Pleasant interior styling, and of course wicked outside 206 looks.

Let down massively/solely by really uncomfortable seats/driving position.

Impossible to get comfortable on a long journey, and legs are very sore on arrival. (I'm 37,5'9 av build male).

Disappointing, as I want to sell it now, due to 90 mile commute each day : (

Great car, but... since I get my 206 I have a problem with the car stopping while running and so far I am OK, but is dangerous and has not been sort out although the car has been with the dealer for a while.

Also from time to time a STOP STOP STOP signal came up on the dashboard and the needle of the temperature goes up to the top strait away. Once I stop for few minutes I can carry on driving without more visible problem.

I agreed that the car is so nice I love it with the above concerns in mind.

Sorry about my English I am a foreigner.

Thank you very much.

The car I own is brilliant; it has everything I wanted. No problems at all and has never had any work done since its day of manufacture.

I have it serviced regularly and the staff at Peugot garages have always been really helpful.

I love the seats and all the different adjustments I can make. As I have a back injury it was a feature that sold the car to me. I am so impressed I am considering up grading my present 2001 model for a more recent one.
