2001 Peugeot 206 GTi 2.0 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Peugeot Mechanics S Hall Rubbish

Faults:

Received the car brand new - no problems.

At 4,000 miles indicator stalk did not function - Waited three weeks for replacement and no replacement vehicle had been provided by S Hall Motors Tran mere.

5,000 Miles car received an interim service - Brakes screech after service and steering unresponsive.

Car was returned to S Hall dealer and adjustments where made. Steering sorted out - brake squeal continued. The report given back from S Hall was that compound of brakes have been changed and this was something that could not be rectified/

12,000 miles Engine rattle at 2,500rpm and above - The fault had been diagnosed as the catalytic converter needed a part? Three week waiting time. On top of this I have asked them to sort out the screech on brakes. The car was given back and tried to drive away from forecourt - virtually no brakes. Even though pumping the brake pedal, it did not make a difference. The car was checked again - 15 minutes later the car was returned mentioning everything was sorted. When I returned to my vehicle the same problem was still there.

One of the mechanics came to the vehicle and stated that nothing was wrong with the brakes and it was normal to have your foot literally millimeters away from the foot well.

I would not accept the car back and it is now currently with S Hall motors being looked at again.

General Comments:

This is a very good vehicle to own.

Be carefull which dealership you use due to the skills of the mechanics.

Caledonia have been excellent to use.

S Hall are probably the worst after sales dealers I have ever experienced.

2001 Peugeot 206 cc SE 2.0 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Works well as an ordinary 206!!!

Faults:

One week after purchasing the car, the roof opened halfway and stopped. In one year the car has been back at the dealers on no fewer than 9 occasions, all with the same problem, the roof!

General Comments:

The convertible part of the car is very unreliable.

2001 Peugeot 206 XR 1.6 petrol from Australia and New Zealand

Summary:

Great performance at a good price

Faults:

I have not encountered anything that could be seen as a fault in the car.

General Comments:

The 1.6 litre engine with the manual has plenty of performance. The Peugeot dealer is left scratching his head to the fact that my car has the better performance over his 206 CC.

Handling is great, especially on the long windy roads and hills.

Road noise can be a bit excessive at times, even with standard 14 inch tyres.

They are great. I recently drove a 206 1.4 auto up through the Black Spur in Vic, and up some pretty steep mountains. It had excelent handling and steering feel. The engine just wanted to keep giving all it had (about 50 kw I believe), and the auto is one of the smoothest (albiet has slow changes).

Great little car.

2001 Peugeot 206 GTi 2.0 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

A great little car for the money

Faults:

There was no coolant in the air conditioning system when I collected it, which the dealer had failed to notice.

The driver's seat jams occasionally, i.e. it refuses to slide backwards and forwards. Fortunately my boyfriend and I have the same length legs so it's not too much of a problem.

General Comments:

Fun to drive, but you do have to really drive it and not just be passive to get the most out of it. I thought the handling would be a bit sharper round corners, but I accept this is a 206 and not an Elise. Acceleration is good and makes overtaking safer than in a slower car. (NB I am NOT a Girl Racer though!)

At the risk of sounding like I should have bought a saloon, the boot is a little small, but the split/fold rear seats help. I am currently expecting a baby and expect that this will become more of a problem once I have wrestled the pram in and out a few times.

The bodywork dents very easily. I have experienced three knocks in car parks so far, which have resulted in getting a front wing bent back to shape and re-sprayed and two small dents in the passenger door and rear wing, which I'm not sure what to do about.

Dealer has been OK so far; their only real mistake was failing to notice the lack of coolant in the air conditioning. Obviously the delivery inspection wasn't too thorough.

Insurance can be variable in cost - shop around thoroughly before comitting.

My 206 GTi also had no coolant in the air-conditioning when I picked it up from the dealer - turned out to be a leak in the condenser. Is this a common problem??

The coolant is not the only problem with this abysmal car, I really do not have the time or the inclination to waste any further time on the wretched little car.

Air-con in my 2000 206GTi (done about 60,000 km's) stopped working a little while ago - the Peugeot garage I took it to at the last service told me it was a coolant leak (don't know where from). They re-filled it with some kind of coolant that colours the area it leaks from (if it leaks) so they can easily identify the leak.

By the way, I had it serviced by City Peugeot in Melbourne Australia, and in case anyone is interested to know, I found them to be VERY good.
