1996 Peugeot 306 DTS 1.9 TD from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Powerful for what it is and cheap to run!

Faults:

In the time I had the car which was just over 3 Months I only had a small problem with the driver's side electric window. Apparently the wires break up inside the rubber gator feeding the wires into the door an this needed to be repaired.

General Comments:

My engine was the earlier none HDI engine, but I felt the performance from it was very good. I managed to keep up with my friends 'J' reg Golf GTI just by adding a performance air filter with a cold air feed.

The car does very well on fuel been a diesel averaging about 45-50MPG, but this is increased to around 35-40MPG when on the motorway above 75MPH.

The car is very cheap to insure for the performance you get out of it.

The cars handling is great, I managed to keep up with lowered car in the wet and dry on standard wheels and suspension.

I feel the car is also very reliable apart from my small window fault which was just a case of wear and tear in the design of the car.

1996 Peugeot 306 Genoa 1.4i from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Solid car, great for new drivers, nice handling and performance

Faults:

Head Gasket starting to leak at 67000miles, not bad for a car of its mileage.

If you maintain it well, it will reliably serve you for years.

General Comments:

I have had this 306 for roughly 7 years now and it has been a good car. Its performance has enhanced with age and it still looks modern unlike similarly aged Ford's and Vauxhall's.

So far, I have had no reliability problems, the performance is adequate although the little 1.4 must be pushed. It is comfortable with nice seats for a small car.

I would recommend it to anyone looking for a first car. The car has been in my family since new and I've had it since mid 2003. One essential thing to do is fit a quality alarm system as an immobilizer alone is not sufficient.

I've noticed no serious wear or tear and it has done me proud, always starts regardless of conditions and handles well.

I agree!

I have had my Genoa for 10 months now, covered around 8000 miles in this time and had no problems at all. The car is creeping up to 100,000 miles and is still very responsive, handles superbly, very economical, very comfortable, extremely reliable and doesn't have a spec of rust anywhere. I did need to have a battery change at 95,000 miles when the cold winter killed the old one, and have had the head gasket changed at around 97,000 miles, that's good in my book! The engine is only a 1.4, but has excellent acceleration and can get from 30-60 in just a few seconds. I would recommend this car to anybody who wants a good reliable, economical and enjoyable car. Thanks Peugeot!!!

1996 Peugeot 306 DTurbo 1.9 turbo diesel from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Excellent performing diesel

Faults:

Radiator required replacement, no leaks just that the fins had fallen out in the lower half of the radiator causing it to overheat at 80mph+ (new radiator cost £85+VAT + labour.

Rip in drivers seat.

Alternator belt tension pulley rattled (£50+ VAT + labour)

General Comments:

Considering the mileage of this car I am really impressed, I was a bit dubious at first, but the garage said it was in excellent condition.

Very impressed by the performance of this car, the turbo comes in at fairly which makes this car fairly rapid.

The car handles better than a lot of cars I have driven and is exceptional in town driving and on the motorway it is a joy to drive.

Fuel economy is excellent as with most diesels and I am generally impressed with the build quality of this car.
