"Comfortable car with quality problems"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Rattling noises from the front suspension when driving on bumpy roads.

Massive engine vibrations between 2400 rpm and 2500 rpm.

Software bugs:

Engine Oil Level Indicator sometimes indicates that the oil level is low even though it isn't.

If I switch the windscreen wipers on and turn the ignition off, and then turn the ignition on again, the wipers don't work. I have to switch the wipers off and then on again to make them work.

General comments?

Generally I'm quite pleased by this car, but I have my doubts regarding the quality of the car.

I mean, suspension rattle after only 1000 kms, that's a scandal.

My friend you wrote <<If I switch the windscreen wipers on and turn the ignition off, and then turn the ignition on again, the wipers don't work. I have to switch the wipers off and then on again to make them work. >>

This is the way to be done and it is normal, b/c the car does not know IF the wipers are frozen b/c of ice OR b/c the windshield is dry (not wet). It is done that way, to protect YOUR wipers!!! OTHERWISE, you should pay very often to change them... :-)

What sort of vibration?

I have a 3 week old 307 and at about the same revs as you mentioned, I get a slight vibration feeling as if it is coming through the bottom of the seat! It feels like resonance, maybe the exhaust vibrating against something?

Is yours the same?

Also do you have any steering wheel vibration (like wheel balance is out) at about 70-70 mph?

Hello.

Yes, the vibrations seem to be similar.

The car will be inspected by a Peugeot Workshop at the 10 of June.

I will post the results here.

Great, look forward to the results of the vibration! Might set my mind at rest. Hopefully they find a reason why and a fix. I normally find they say "we can't find anything wrong" or "its the way the car is"!! Oh no it's not! Look further than your noses! Good luck.

I was at the garage today and they solved my engine vibration problem. Now the car runs smoothly.

They actually removed a rubber pad attached to the exhaust pipe. I think the pad was installed to support the exhaust pipe in the first place, but according to the workshop it wasn't needed.

According to the workshop this is a known error.

Hope this helps.

Ah ha! Which rubber did they remove on the exhaust pipe? Was it at the back or the front?

I own a 307 Xsi 1.6 and I can also sense a vibration around those revs. Dealer says they do not know what it is about. As far as the windscreen wipers are concerned, I really don't think it is a safety precaution. The thing is the computer only activates them when it senses a change in the position of the wiper switch. When you turn on the ignition, there is no change in the position, so, they don't start working until you move the switch.

We've had a new Peugeot 307 for 4 months now and, apart from a few minor interior design gripes, our main concern has been that the right-hand windscreen wiper does not reach out to the right of the screen. There had been a gap of 7-8" which created a blind spot when turning right. However, after correspondence with the dealer and Peugeot themselves when we had a mixture of comments such as "they're all like that" or "we've never had a complaint before" we took it back to the dealer two days ago and insisted they tried to adjust the right windscreen wiper. They did the best they could, but it still stops about 6" short of the right windscreen pillar. We have yet to discover whether this will give sufficient improvement. Has no-one else truly had this problem?

I have owned my 307 for just over 2 years and the engine has become, much more open in it's power delivery and smoother to go with it. I also expressed some of these issues with the service dept. Since the 40,000K service the car has been transformed. I hope this will also be for your cars, as I am actually very happy with the car as it is now!

I want to endorse the comment about the wipers on the 307. I have contacted Peugeot because I think the fact that there is a 7-8 inch margin which the wiper does not cover is a serious design flaw and a hazard. Right turning on a wet day is a nightmare. Could it be connected with left-hand drive (France) as there is no problem with the left wiper?
