2010 Peugeot 308 Vti 1.4 gasoline from Greece

Summary:

Nice, underpowered engine, problematic car

Faults:

At 10000 km the car started consuming oil. Approximately 1lt every 4000 km. The official dealer told me it was normal and there was no need to take any action.

At 100000km I had an indication of faulty anti-pollution while I was on a trip. The analyser was reporting a cylinder misfire. After 10000 km the same error (anti-pollution faulty) came back, only this time the alarm was blinking and the engine was shutting down in low throttle. Opening the engine showed a broken exhaust valve... (two small pieces were missing from the base of the valve)... We had to replace:

1 piston.

All piston rings on all 4 pistons.

All exhaust valves.

Also we had to replace the thermostat of the car, since it was broken and was leaking anti-coolant.

The last part replaced was the engine cover, since the oil return looked blocked.

Also I need a key replacement as it gives me an anti-theft faulty error and I have to use the spare key.

General Comments:

It has a nice feel driving it, though is under powered.

Easily going for 350-400 km trips without stopping, even on not so good roads.

If it wasn't for the engine problems it gave me, I would have been really happy with this car.

2015 Peugeot 308 Active 1.6 e-HDi 115hp turbo diesel from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Fun to drive, economical, comfortable, quality feel, but has flaws

Faults:

Nothing.

General Comments:

Engine and handling are superb, and it is great to drive on the open road, but the gearbox is vague, and the steering too light.

So far has proved very economical - local stop/start driving I'm achieving around 50 MPG. I expect to get a lot more on a long trip with the 6th gear.

Very quiet and comfortable, though set up for the driver can take a while to get right - there are plenty of settings for the seat/steering column. The small steering wheel is very easy to get used to, and feels good once you have. The same cannot be said for the much vaunted i-cockpit. The screen in the centre of the dash takes a while to come to terms with, and though essential functions are available elsewhere, it can be annoying to have to use two or more presses on the screen, when a traditional knob could have achieved the same in one go. The satnav in particular is very poor; the free satnav on my android tablet is much better.

Interior quality mainly good, it feels solid and well made, time will tell if it wears as well as my 306. Cheap plastic in evidence in some places.

2009 Peugeot 308 SW 1.6 HDI turbo diesel from Bulgaria

Summary:

Excellent family car

Faults:

Headlights several times - absolutely nothing else.

General Comments:

Got it brand new. Stylish interior and exterior for the price. Space is ample in the SW version - we are two adults and two little kids, plus a dog in the back. Sometimes we add a rooftop (when we go camping for example), but generally manage without.

Never had a break-down, have not replaced a single part on the powertrain or drivetrain. Contrary to the common bashing of the brand, my Peugeot has been absolutely reliable.

Consumption - right now I have 4.6l/100km during the last c.3000km. This is mostly highway, so a speed of 120-140km/hr. There is also some urban mileage, but very little out of town and not at highway speeds. Usually it is around 5/100.

Don't have much more to say - a solid, reliable car if you know how to take care of it.

2012 Peugeot 308 1.6 diesel from Turkey

Faults:

I have been driving automatic transmission cars since 1995. I renew my car every 3 years. This is the worst car I've ever had. Terrible transmission. Although it has a 6 gear semi-automatic transmission; it has no comfort. I feel every gear shift terribly inside the car. Even my neck gets tired after driving in rush hour. Peugeot must stop producing semi-automatic transmission cars. Terrible engineering.
