2001 AWD Pontiac Aztek - Transfer case replaced at 300 miles and rear differential replaced at 10,000 miles (both covered by warranty). AC stopped working in 2006. Like the car, but it is approaching 85k so I'm not sure how much longer it will last. Great dog car. Only used the tent thing twice.

I will NEVER by an American car again. I've had so many problems with my car. It's a 2001. First the air condition broke, then the memory box broke (not sure what it is called, but it controls all the automatic stuff in the car) Now my wind shield wipers do not work, I don't know if the motor is dead or what. I would sell this car in a heartbeat and buy a Honda, but I don't want a car payment!

I bought a 2001 Aztek in mid 07, and it's been a great car until after 7 months of driving it, I started to experience problems like the head lamp wires started to fry themselves and had to be replaced. Then both driver and pass door hinges went out; more money. Then the air conditioner condenser went out, snow slid down my window and cracked it, and the rear door hatch stopped working.

Then the big one; my tranny went out on me and costs 2400 to be refurbished.

I have a 2001 Aztek GT and have also experienced some problems, but I still love the car. Within the first couple of weeks of purchase I believe all the computer chips were replaced, at least it was under warranty. I have noticed tires wear quicker with this car, brakes too. I did need to have the a/c repaired for leaks in 2006. The car does make an awful screeching sound when turned on sometimes but I've learned that if you just turn it to aux and pump the gas once, turn it off and all the way on while giving the gas a little pump has seemed to stop it. (A minor inconvenience but the car is paid off so I deal :) I am having the car looked at now (2008) for a noise from the rear end; I think it has something to do with the drive train or suspension. I found that someone else had a similar issue and a "knuckle" on the rear axle needed to be replaced. Their cost was $375. If this is the issue, it still is worth keeping the car and not having any payments. I love the design. Haven't had any engine problems, other than the infamous gasket issue (2007). And it offers so much back end room which I need to haul my two big dogs around.

I have owned 2 Pontiac Aztek GTs. I bought the first in 2001 new, actually a lease because I wasn't completely convinced I would like it. I loved it! I had a few minor issues, but all were corrected by the dealer. I had the rear hatch latching issue and the tires were shot at 36,000 miles. I took it in to see if I had to replace them before returning it and the dealership suggested I turn it back early (4,000 miles early) and get another one. I did just that and bought a 2004 model. Both Azteks I bought were loaded. Leather seats and all the bells and whistles.

I absolutely love this car. It has so much room, people just can't believe what I can put in it! I have hauled Maytag Neptune Washer and Dryer, a 135Gal Aquarium (6 ft. long!) and the stand/canopy. Those and many other LARGE items with the hatch closed!!! With the tailgate down, I have called 4x8 sheets of plywood and sheet rock. I have the camping kit and have used the tent and air mattress many times. It is very comfortable and I can control the excellent stereo system from the back.

My current aztek has 55,000 miles and is still running great. I lost a headlight (warr. replacement) at 30,000.

I had the check engine lite issue with both cars. Each time it was self inflicted. The gas cap wasn't on tight!

I have a 2004 Pontiac Aztek and was hoping someone knew how to get the key out of the ignition; it is stuck in the on position. I have tried everything. I drove it home and put it in park like I always do, then went to turn it off; the engine turned off but not the car itself. The battery was still on. I have to unhook the cable so the battery doesn't run dry.

I have a 2003 Aztek, which I purchased last September. So far, all issues have been minor.

I had the exact same thing happen with my Aztek, where I put it into park, turned off the engine, but could not turn the key all the way back. I was at work (not in the nicest area) so panicked a little, called GM and they sent a tow truck. The tow truck driver was a bit of a goof... and I had to start the vehicle and move it ahead for him. At that time, the button popped out and I was able to shut off the vehicle and remove the key!! I still took it to the dealership. They told me this happened to one other person. They took apart the shifter (to confirm I hadn't spilt anything on it), gave it a cleaning (not needed) and oiled the spring. After paying $80, was told it is very unusual for this to happen and if it happens again, they would fix it without charging me.

Other issues that I am dealing with include:

--- the radio. The stations keep reprogramming themselves. They have replaced the stereo, however the "new" - refurbished radio, losses the stations more often then the on I had. This is not a major issue... but very annoying.

--- the hatch doesn't always want to open. Again, not major.

---- the heat (or lack there of) is a major issue. I'm in Manitoba and the weather in the winter can be frigid. This year, it was common to be -30-40 for days on end. The vehicle threw very little heat. I had the thermostat changed and this made a big difference, however find that when the heat is on high, it does not blow very hard. I've been told by my dealership this is just how it was designed... but feel bad for my passengers in the backseat --- they will freeze. Needless to say, I will be packing extra blankets and looking into plug in seat pads.

So far, only minor issues. I love the vehicle...!!

I purchased my 2001 Aztek used in 2006.. I only had to have the radiator fixed thus far.. There are some things going on with the gas gauge and it says Low Fuel when on an incline.

The air bag light comes on for no reason, and the check engine light also comes on for no reason. I have had it inspected and they cannot seem to find anything wrong with the engine.

Oh yes, every now and then, it seems like the transmission is struggling when going up a hill. Other than that.. I love this car and just hope that I can get another few years out of the thing.

The body is still in good shape as well as the interior.. not a bad feat with having three kids.. as for funny looking.. it cannot be that bad if my teenagers think it is HOT..
