I can relate to all of your comments. I too have a 99 grandam SE 3.4 ltr engine. I've had 2 water pumps, alternator, new engine, scratching windows, headlight covers blistering, rocker arms coming loose, intake manifold leaking, key cylinder, tail light problems (work, don't work) and Now the security light is staying on. I've been told to 1st change to a different key to see if that could possible be the problem. (worn out key maybe) I'll know later today. I too enjoy the ride of my car and the general looks of it. I now only have about 113,000 miles on it.

I can't get into my trunk... I press my button to get into it and it will not open... The only key that I got with my car was the one to start it. It will fit in the hole, but will not turn... Not sure whats wrong with it...

I have a 1999 Pontiac Grand Am,3 months ago I noticed my car security system started acting up and I have 2 wait 10 or 20 min for it to reset. I have also replaced the Alternator in it. I wonder if that may have something to do with it.I'm gonna call the dealer and see if there might be a recall on them yet. i can't afford to fix this problem so I will call every day until something is done to fix the problem and I hope you all call as well.

Your best bet is to Disable the Passlock yourself. This will save you from having to replace the Ignition Lock Cylinder for a lot of money. Dealership service departments will not do this for you. This would cut into their bottom line. Do a Google search for Passlock I or II Disablement or Passlock Disablement for Remote Start Capability. You do not need to install the remote starter.

I have a 2000 Pontiac Grand Am, the security light comes on periodically and I cannot start the car. It irritates me to know end! I really need to find out what the problem is. I am going to use some of these tips on this page. It can't hurt. Thank you for the info. Now I know I'm not the only one with the problem.
