I got the car in 2005, from a previous owner. I test drove it and it ran great. Then I gave it to my son to drive and he tortured it.
A few months ago while I was driving, some smoke came out of the hood. It turned out to be the power steering oil leaking.
I found a hole in the rusty power steering hose, so I replaced it.
Now the oil is leaking every time I drive it. I think it is the actual power steering pump itself.
I would be grateful for any suggestions to my problem.
It a very good looking vehicle. I am thinking of lowering the suspension and putting a spoiler to give it a more sporty look.
It's a little dry, potholes feel like earthquakes.
I had the same car with the 3.3 Engine in it. Had the same problem when the power steering hose went, the oil pretty much got all over the back exhaust manifold behind the engine. After getting the hose repaired, still noticed a little bit of smoke still coming out. I opened the hood to see that it was coming from the back of the engine where the exhaust was. I decided to steam wash the engine pretty good because I figured that washing out the oil would solve it. After words, letting the engine sit and dry, started it up, steam starting coming out from the evaporating water. After a while, drove it and the smoke stopped, so it was pretty much the power steering fluid sitting on the back of the engine, etc. Recommend probably washing your engine and cover your battery and air filter intake.
This car is HOT & SMOKIN! Had the same thing happen to my 93 Grand AM, but do not own it anymore because I was getting sick of racing and winning all the time. Any oil that settles over the back manifold will make it smoke for a while. The last comment is very true, you really have to steam wash under the hood and then let it dry for a while... you will still noticed some smoke afterwards, but after driving the vehicle, should go away. Again, this car is HOT!!!
