1989 Pontiac Grand Prix from North America

Summary:

This car has been reliable and cheap, good pick!

Faults:

~Fuel pump sensor went a week after I got the car.

~Rear brakes locked up completely ruining the back brake system.

General Comments:

This car has been amazing. Granted it is my first car and other than my moms I haven't driven anything to compare it to. But the maintinance has been minimal given its 16 years old. I got this car from a family friend with really low miles. I would reccomend this car to anybody!!!

1989 Pontiac Grand Prix SE 2.8 liter multi port FI from North America

Summary:

Good car

Faults:

Oil light is always on, same with the coolant temperature light, and the rpm gauge is about 1000 off at low rpms.

General Comments:

I have recently gotten my 89 Grand Prix, and the oil light is always on. Even when the oil pressure gauge is working properly at 40psi, when the manual says it should kick in at above 60psi.

But this is still a great car, and the paint is blistering on the hood, roof and trunk, so I think I might take the hood off and sand it down. Then apply 5 coats primer, 10 coats gloss black, and 5 coats clear gloss, and with the silver paint that is on it now, I think it will look good.

1989 Pontiac Grand Prix LE 3.1 V6 from North America

Faults:

About seventy percent of the time the speedometer, gas, actually none of the gauges are even close functioning properly. (Which does have benefits because the mileage is assumed about 30k under actual amount)

Driver door does not unlock occasionally and nned to climb through passenger.

Power steering leaks.

Antenna no longer functions.

Replaced Brakes, struts, and battery.

Driver side window no is longer functioning.

Remote for locks and trunk never worked.

Driver side automatic seat is slowly going.

I have noticed some rough shifting with transmition.

Car sat for a year prior and would not hold a charge for over a day. This problem actually no longer occurs.

Exaust broke off from muffler.

Another exhaust leak has not been found. Followed it to the engine, but could not see. But my neighbors will tell you that there is a definite leak.

General Comments:

The "Bat mobile" has been good to me although all the problems. Very spacious, every one loves the ashtrays in the back.

Interior is tribute to 80`s Design. (That's what I tell the ladies.)

In process of full reconditioning. I plan on doing modified body kit. Not sport compact, but more of a euro look. Since headliner sagging going with black vinyl a mirror and custom made chandelier. I`m not joking. Taking out passenger seat and putting 20" T.V. under dash. I would need to build mounting for that than mold in with fiberglass cover with black vinyl. (Delightfully tacky right?) Maybe if I get lucky at the junk yard a sunroof.

Have been looking for new dash at local junkyards in hope of getting my gauges back.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated or tips for repair are encouraged.

I`m from Youngstown Ohio and I love my Grand Prix.

For your gauges, there are 14 pins on the back of the gauge cluster that simply need to be re-sotered.

1989 Pontiac Grand Prix LE 2.8L V6 from North America

Summary:

This Car is BOMB

Faults:

There has not been a lot go wrong with the car.

I have had to replace the battery once after I left it sitting for a week and a half, I noticed that the Door Lock button would stay illuminated even after you turn the car off and all the lights were off also.

That's it other than me being an idiot trying to drift in the snow and hit a curb and blew out the RF tire.

General Comments:

The only thing I don't like about this car is the interior, it's all ripped up, but it will be replaced.

The car has great torque and acceleration, I have taken my buddies '87 3.8L V6 T'bird in a couple 1/4 and 1 mile races.

The bass is great for a stock system and the whole system is pretty amazing for stock.

It's got a HUGE trunk which will be nice when I drop my JL 15's in it!
