We have people here saying Pontiac would have been better off making their own engine for this car. So, that seems like laziness to use a problem-prone engine instead. Whether the engine itself or redlining it around town caused the problems is a separate point that most here will agree to disagree on.

I thought that move was to reduce costs; outsource to a just in time supplier for engines. Not laziness.

Many older, but those with later models have expressed concerns on consumeraffairs.com with sludging. Cold passages in blocks. Sure you can limp around in some cars, but most don’t like it.

Yeah, the "redlining point" was mentioned by you and you only, assuming that was the reason the guy blew the engine in his Corolla just because they were driving on the highway... nice try.

Will this come to a conclusion... or will the thread be locked?

10th Aug 2021, 13:53 was not my comment, and other non-me comments on here have also talked about it. It’s a legitimate point.

12th Aug 2021, 17:07

Can you enlighten us on which comments actually said that Pontiac would have been better off building their own engine for the car on review? You can use the date and numbers in the upper left hand corner as a reference.

12th Aug 2021, 22:22

You're 100% correct, but the posters here who insist that Pontiac should have been held responsible for the failings of an engine designed and built by Toyota will never admit that!

13th Aug 2021, 00:43

Nope, I said a service dept could imply to make a claim. I could care less how you drive yours. Go to consumeraffairs.com and look under Toyota sludging.

13th Aug 2021, 10:58

Toyota sucks, but their reliability is second to none.

13th Aug 2021, 13:50

Look up late models Toyota consumeraffairs.com on issues. Older ones were.

13th Aug 2021, 13:58

Uh, yeah, I know all about the Yota sludge problems. Probably the reason I don't own one.

13th Aug 2021, 14:28

It seems to me that this review is under attack from trolls from the GMinsidenews.

13th Aug 2021, 15:52

You mentioned it first assuming that the individual who lost their Corolla engine was red lining just because they were on the highway.

Maybe you're right. Toyota engines can't handle high revs. This would be the answer on why BMW built the performance engine in the new Supra.

13th Aug 2021, 16:53

Yep, as evidenced by the engine in this car.

14th Aug 2021, 03:20

No, a manufacturer will say you abused red lined etc. to void warranty in many cases. Better have all your service records, but they can find ways to void warranties. I know. Hope that finally set that’s straight. I do not drive like that anyway. These cars are not race cars anyway. Just A to B vehicles.

So predictably, I'm locking this thread. It's all heat and no light now unfortunately. I probably should have done it sooner.
