Does anyone have a picture or diagram as to where to find this black box?

We've looked everywhere and cannot see one!

We've got a Clio 1.2 16v.

As far as my research goes this is definitely the problem.

Hi Guys.

I own a Clio 52 plate and I had real problems which started over Christmas and New Year, BUT I've fixed the problem myself!

I called my breakdown service out while I was stuck on the motorway, apparently the power had gone and it dropped from 60 to 20mph which was scary especially seeing cars coming towards you really fast. I had to keep putting my hazards on.

To cut it short, I called out 5 mechanics to do diagnostics checks, which was £40 a time, and then went to a Renault Specialist who was not pleasant and wanted to charge me £985 to fix the problem.

PEOPLE I FOUND OUT WHAT MY PROBLEM IS!!! In the bonnet you have a black little box at the back of your engine, it's easy to lift off and just check the wires because the lid of the black box is rubbing on the wires, which is cutting into it and hence the problem of it slowing down. I put black tape and foam in between the lid and the wires to cover it up. My car has been excellent since. I recommend it!

My goodness, all these problems are exactly what I've been facing on my Clio 1.2 16v Y reg for about 2 years now, and blamed it on my brothers rough driving!!

Spent 400 back in January as it completely broke down and would not start - and just spent 100 on a new starter motor this week. Took it to a garage yesterday to get the orange coil light to stop coming up and stalling the car at junctions and in heavy start, stop traffic; he plugged it into the machine, which showed a map sensor fault, which he can kindly repair for 145.

Going to try and find this black box, because soon I would have spent more than the car is worth!!

Guys, can some-one post a picture of were exactly this black box is at the back of the engine? I have idle problems for months now, it's doing my head in.

Cheers, Gary.

Hi, can anyone help?

The wiring loom light has been coming on in the car intermittently when slowing down at a snail pace, sometimes causing the car to over rev and then sometimes stall - - it can't decide to stay switch on or cut off.

Took it to my local dealer and it said 'map sensor' fault, changed the map sensor but still doing it.

Have checked the black box behind the engine and the black outer rubber has all worn. My friend wiggled all the wires and now the wiring loom light is permanently on, in one way least I know the fault is around them wires.

Can anyone help or give me any suggestions before it costs me loads :(

Thanks.

Gary, give me your email I will send you a photo of the box and the problem it can cause.

I have had the idle problem for 5 months and took it to Renault specialist, and their diagnostic picked it up straight away and problem solved.

Before I had taken to normal garage, and their diagnostic was not sensitive enough and came up with map sensor, which they changed, but no better so refunded me.

Hi. I have experienced the same problem with my 1.2 16v 53 plate Clio. The cutting out and loss of power. I had my car put on the diagnosis and it came back with the throttle position sensor (TPS). I had it changed and now working 100%.

Also all the engine warning light and electric fault lights come on, but this is the only problem that the machine came back with, so I hope I helped with some queries.

Hi all, I have had my Renault Clio Dynamique 1.2 16v 51 reg, since it was a year old and the last month the emissions light has intermittently been flashing and loosing power.

It is currently in the garage having the coil pack and leads replaced. Reading this website I fear this is not going to solve the issue.

Can anyone give me more details on this black box and what I need to do to it to correct the matter!

Natalie.

Hi Natalie.

I have had the same problem with the Clio cutting out / idle problems.

The first garage did the same changed the coil pack however this only sorted the problem for about a week (cost about £80) Decided to ring my local Renault dealer; they said they would run a diagnostic on the car and they would charge £70 !!! ONLY to put a wire into my car and check to see what the problem is, NOT actually to sort the problem out.

I then phoned round a couple of local garage, and this guy said he just got a new diagnostic machine in, so I left it in with him and got it back the same day. Turn out to be a fault in the lambda sensors on the car. They clean/refilled and tested the car and hopefully will be fixed. They charged £90 for the labour. They also cleaned inside and outside the car, which was nice considering it was covered in grass from golf.

Hope this helps!

Gary.

I have the same problem. It is a 51 plate 1.2 litre. Engine cuts out, light comes on and revs oscillate. Happened 3 years ago, I took it to a Renault dealer, they charged £260 for a new throttle body and re-set something (sorry can't remember what).

However, it happened again the other day on the motorway and had to get towed. Garage couldn't work out what was wrong with it, but it did make it back to London from Wales and is running fine, but I'm a bit uneasy driving it.

It seems there may be more than one solution? Glad to see I'm not the only one, can Renault not do anything about this?

Thanks for the advice, but I think the garage said they had cleaned it all up. At the moment my car is still currently in the garage, having already had to have the catalytic converter replaced, the wiring loom, crank shaft sensor, and now the injector loom. Costing me approx £600 already and they have just called to say that "it is running better, but not for long", meaning it's still not right, and that the plugs are blackened so they now have suggested the piston rings! When is this all going to end... I will soon have a brand new engine! Does anyone have anymore ideas... can't be any worse than the monkey's playing with my car at the moment!

Just thought I'd add to the comments already here.

Thiis is probably the worst car I have ever owned. 1.2 Clio Dynamique.

Since new the engine has cut out, both windows have actually fallen down into the doors three times now, then the engine management system has been reset so many times I have lost count. Each time I'm charged as they try to sort it, and a few days, or if I'm lucky months later, it's back.

Today, M4, it's back, and this time emissions light. Great.

Thought I'd share the love. Never buy one of these cars if you don't have one!

Stuart.
