2004 Renault Laguna Dynamique Techno 2.0 16v Dynamique Techno 5d Auto from UK and Ireland

Excellent car with modern styling, handling and top safety rating

No major problems with the car. Purchased it in January and is still operating excellently. Had one minor problem that flap on dashboard did not close, but that was immediately replaced under warranty by Renault. Apart from that there were no other problems.

General Comments:

Outstanding car that has a good performance and handling. Modern styling and top safety rating. Very well-equipped as standard, even to the point of adding features other manufacturers don't even offer as extras - like tyre pressure monitor and key less entry. Comfortable seats with a good driving position. Fair amount of space for driver and passengers. Practical with good boot space and many power points which are quite handy.

The cabin is not that stylish and looks more like a high street attempt at couture design. It's just nice, no more, no less. It is also quite expensive to run as insurance is costly along with petrol fees. Computerized system makes the car drive slowly at times so you have to put your foot down to make it fast again. Reliability is said to be poor with the Laguna, but mine seems to be working fine. I'll just have to wait and see how things turn out as the mileage increases.

Excellent review. Very helpful.

2004 Renault Laguna 3.0 V6 Hatchback Privilege 3.0 V6 from Finland

The cruise control has not worked from the beginning, and is still not working after 3 visits to the dealer service.

The car became 30% lazier after the last service, where they tried instead of changing the cruise control, to compensate it with manipulating and programming the moment changer in the automatic gearbox.

Now I have to push the kickdown every time I want to accelerate the car.

General Comments:

The car is good to drive and is comfortable, except that it is a bit ascetic in the interior.

But the big problem is that the people in the dealer services in the Helsinki area is almost COMPLETELY UNSKILLED. THE SAME GOES FOR THE TECHNICAL ADVISOR'S BY THE IMPORTER.

At least Renault are consistant. Dealers in UK about as good as Finland. Is it the dealers or is it the information they are issued with from Renault. I have had no problem with the cruise control on my V6 other than a faulty switch that caused acceleration rather than decelleration when pressed. This could be a cause for a recall in the USA. In Europe things are different.

I had many problems with my Renault V6 2003. The car will not start, the airbag lights came on many times, replaced sensors three times, oil leak, the rear door will not lock, etc. This car has a serious reliability issues. My advice never buy a Renault again.

I have had Laguna 3.0 V6 for 3 years. Basically without problems, but cruise control is really something to improve-- had a tendency to stay on low gear and high revolutions forever. To ease it I had to press pedal and accelerate, but wonder if police would understand why I had to drive much above the limit. A month ago I had electrical problems, now again the same. First time it was fixed in Tallin within 1 day, now I have to wait in Kotka (Finland) for 3 weeks driving faulty car. I can confirm that service in Kotka is very unskilled and you have to wait eternity to get there-- 3 to 4 weeks.

Taken all together, I'm happy with the car.

The car has been so far very reliable. Nothing has gone wrong.

However there is some things that made me disappointed after driving the car for some time.

For example:

The car has a learning program in it's computer that has an effect on the transmission and the fuel feeding system.

If I for instance have to drive for some time slow in a traffic jam, and after that want to accelerate and start driving faster, nothing happens for some time. The car is very lazy until I perform many heavy accelerations, and the computer learns a faster driving manner.

The dashboard is very ascetic and the material of it is looking cheap for a car in this price range.

The radio and the loud-speakers are not up to the standard of a car in this price range.

Of course there is a possibility for a better radio for an additional charge.

The promised acceleration 8,1 sec. 0-100 km/h is only theory. Because of a "thinking" in the start, there is a loss of one sec.

The good things with the car:

Excellent chassis and driving conditions.

Excellent ESP system.

Excellent brakes.

Good looking design.

Nice colors.

Good comfort.

Good performance when the speed is already up.

General Comments:

Good bargain for the price.

In Finland it's not possible to buy a Renault Privilege. You can choose between Authentic, Decor or Optima.
