1995 Rover - Austin 100 Kensington 1.1 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Great little first car....

Faults:

Nothing.

General Comments:

Great little car, used to get quite a thrashing and never let me down although the clutch was starting to make a funny noise when changing gear.... beginning to go I think.

Sold it and bought a Renault 19 16V. A bit on the flimsy side, but the engine was good and it was 100% reliable.

1995 Rover - Austin 100 Gta 1.4 petrol from UK and Ireland

Faults:

Suspension needs gassing up every year and last year caused the radius arm to snap, quite expensive.

The original back box degraded and literally dropped off after 18 months. I have added a performance back box, fully stainless steel costing half the price of the non stainless steel Rover option.

Squeaks in the car and suspension appear and disappear at random which can be annoying.

General Comments:

Performance for a small car is pleasing and the performance back box has a more respectable sized tailpipe unlike the original Rover one. The standard features such as the alloys and sunroof gives good value for money. A major factor in deciding to buy the car was the low insurance group of 5. XR2 performance without the insurance costs. The interior could do with brightening up but when everything is taken into account, I couldn't find a better hot hatch, 18 months old for £5500.

Not really what I would call a hot hatch.

1995 Rover - Austin 100 114 Sli 1.4 Spi K-series from UK and Ireland

Faults:

Gearbox linkage snapped after four months ownership! Replaced under warranty. Apparently it's a common weakness on the 100 series.

Other than that it's been faultless!

TOUCH WOOD!

General Comments:

Very enjoyable to drive!

The K-Series engine delivers enough ooommph when well revved, to surprise some of the quickest 'Hot hatches'! The best part however, is the handling. I changed the standard steel rims for the older Metro GTi Latice alloys with Pirelli 185/55/R13's, the car sticks to the road like a go-kart! Published Rover 0-60 = 10.7? My car actually reaches 60 in the low 9's and is un-modified (75BHP) from the factory.

1995 Rover - Austin 100 Kensington SE 1.1 petrol from UK and Ireland

Faults:

Rubber around headlight came out.

Rattle from door. Squeak from steering wheel. All fixed under warranty.

More recently a wire came off the coil, causing cutout. Cheap to fix.

General Comments:

A good car, my 5th Metro (I know it's not called that!). But also my last as they don't make them anymore! Easy and fun to drive. Quite economical to run. K-Series engine excellent.

5th metro, good for you. I think they are great, cheap and reliable, you can't go wrong.
