1995 Rover - Austin 600 SDi 2.0 turbo diesel from UK and Ireland

Faults:

Water ingress through rear door seal.

Drivers side electric window mechanism (twice).

New cylinder head @ 85,000mls (replaced by dealer FOC although out of warranty).

Headlamp bulbs every 5/6000 mls.

Power steering leaks.

General Comments:

Cannot find a better performing diesel car for similar money.

Constant 50mpg on mixed driving.

Currently 140,000 hard miles and no oil required between services.

Getting tired of lack of refinement.

Roll on new 75.

I can only re-iterate your comments, however, do you know of a keenly priced service agent for 620 diesels near to Lichfield?? I change the oil and filter myself, but don't know much about the rest of the servicing, filters etc.

I have no trouble with my rover 600 sldi

300 miles a week.

1995 Rover - Austin 600 620i 2.0 from UK and Ireland

Faults:

Nothing major.

General Comments:

This is one of the most boring cars I have ever driven. The worst thing about it is the steering at motorway speeds. To say that it was vague is a euphemism. When cornering on wide sweepers etc, I never quite knew what it was going to do next. Obviously it's not a sports car but compared to the Mondeo or especially the Peugeot 405/6, it's a long way behind. Come on Rover, produce an interesting car please.

1995 Rover - Austin 600 620 Sli 2.0 petrol from UK and Ireland

Faults:

Within two weeks of receiving the car the following work was done:

Replaced windscreen seal (after finding a inch of water on the floor).

New ignition lock.

New rear light clusters (old ones had rotted).

Replaced two ABS sensors (one caused the brakes to fail totally).

Both front windows not closing properly.

Rattle from drivers door (found to be a pair of pliers in the door panel).

Radiator replaced.

General Comments:

After the initial problems had been sorted out (mainly due to poor quality control at the dealer), the car has been very reliable. Though I don't think I will have another one, especially from the same dealer.

1995 Rover - Austin 600 623SLI 2.3 petrol from UK and Ireland

Faults:

Electrical faults.

Occasional noise from brake pump.

Rear exhaust box badly corroded after 18 months.

High depreciation.

General Comments:

This is seen as very much a "Pipe and Slippers" car. If you drive it like this i.e. gently and leisurely then everything seems okay. However if you up the pace then the ride deteriorates and the road noise becomes intrusive. It looks great when I've washed it but it really is mutton in lambs clothing.
