1993 Rover - Austin 800 820i 2.0i-16v from Netherlands

Summary:

A cheap long distance limousine

Faults:

Because the car had been parked for more than five months, the radiator had to be replaced.

The powered window on the driver's side wasn't working smoothly anymore. This is repaired now.

A minor oil leak is discovered and this will be repaired during MOT/APK.

General Comments:

I'm very positive about the space in this car.

Engine performance and handling is very good.

I think the engine makes too much noise when accelerating on the motorway. Fuel consumption on the other hand is very modest.

Suspension is not too much of fun on very bad roads. Makes the CD player nervous! On motor ways it's perfect.

Good seats, nice wood trim, full options and elegant looks. Booth space is 100%!

1993 Rover - Austin 800 Si 2.0 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Reliable, bargain luxury car with no image

Faults:

Head gasket at 100k.

Front disks worn out at 120k.

Rear brake caliper at 120k.

ABS light on for the last 19k miles!

General Comments:

Electric windows don't like wet weather - but still work - try bending the upper half of the door if they stick!

Quiet and economical. I got 44mpg at 80 mpg on the motorway the month I bought it.

It's quick and quiet. Burns off Darrens and Waynes easily. Head, cams and valves still in good condition at 120k miles, and I'm not gentle with it.

Tyres last 30k miles.

Ride is a good compromise between motorway comfort and cornering ability. Double wishbone front suspension is good. You can chuck them into corners with ease. I love roundabouts!

Absolutely stunning, fantastic, incredible!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mine's black and gets brilliant attention as you drive down the street. It's fast, refined, very sporty looking. Great Recaro interior. I'm only 19 and I love it to bits!!!!! It can beat every boy racer!

To be fair this car goes at a reasonable speed, but the only problem I have is that it does not have much street cred. The colour is exceptional, it is a silvery-blue. It has a two litre engine and always gets noticed because of my massive subs in the boot. I'm 18 and this car is a sex machine, and believe me I've had some fun times crusin!!!!!!

You should try to have a go of a 2.7 litre model... and hold on tight!!!!!!

15th Jan 2001, 13:38

Don't worry about trying a 2.7 out, they're fast too, but a Turbo with boost upped to 12 PSI will beat any other Rover 800. The only problems with over boosting are traction, and gearbox reliability; I've eaten 2 in 5 months!!!

Go to http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/rover800/ for more info on tuning and websites on Rover 800's etc...

Are you guys serious??

How can you afford to insure such a car?

Or maybe you don't have insurance?? ;)

I'm 19 and if I thought I could get close to insuring one I would get one straight away, even though they lack cred!

Who cares about cred - nobody can see you cos your're going too fast!!

Great cars.

My mate has a 820 vittesse turbo, buying it from him £100 he`s fitted a stainless steal exhaust from cat back, and a big fat induction kit and it sound awesome.

Got 147mph out off it, but still sound and fills so smooth.
