1993 Saturn SC SC2 1.9 DOHC from North America

Summary:

I love them both, and will take them to the grave with me!!!

Faults:

Water pump, starter, coolant reservoir.

General Comments:

I have two, a 93 SC2 manual trans, and a 94 SL2 auto, both 1.9 DOHC.

These cars run like screaming demons, you just need to know how to slightly alter them.

Yes they eat oil, UNLESS you replace the PCV with an original Saturn PCV, Saturn has issued a TSB for that fact stating that the spring tension in aftermarkets is inadequate, allowing for extra oil consumption.

And GM has a TSB out for Saturn for using a cleaner to de-carbon the rings on the pistons; YES they are prone to sticking and consuming oil, as well as losing performance.

1993 Saturn SC SC2 1.9L 4 cylinder from North America

Summary:

Coupe, but not quite a "SPORT coupe" or SC

Faults:

Gear was stripped on the drivers side window crank.

One headlight motor burnt out.

Sunroof motor burnt out.

Leaks in the lining of both doors, and due to rust on the sunroof.

Drivers side automatic seatbelt is burnt out.

Air conditioning only slightly cools.

Thermostat reads at 20 degrees over the real engine temperature.

Passenger seat is jammed and cannot move forward and backward.

General Comments:

Great on gas 28/30 mpg for city/highway.

Pretty quick for an automatic 4-cylinder with the performance/overdrive switch.

Handles very well.

1993 Saturn SC SC2 1.9L DOHC I-4 from North America

Summary:

Good, Faster than your normal Honda kind of Car

Faults:

Nothing so far. I have changed the Air Filter and started adding gas treatments to clean out the injectors. Car was running rough for a while since it has been sitting for a while and not to mention the interior rattled a lot, but it has toned down a lot as it is being driven. A good used battery was put in along with a fresh oil and filter change. Going to replace spark plugs and wires soon as I am trying to burn of excess oil that seeped into the combustion chamber and make sure that it is not a header failure.

General Comments:

Just got it at a local junkyard for US$500.00. Car came with almost every power option available except a powered sunroof. It has cruise control and a plus option, TRACTION CONTROL. It has been good on gas and I got this car because it was cheap and my primary vehicle was disabled. I am planning to put a front strut tower bar, a cold air kit and a speed chip. Beating almost everyone starting from a stop light.

1993 Saturn SC SC2 from North America

Summary:

A semi-stylish, slightly serious, yet sensible car

Faults:

1993 SC2 here with all the options and auto transmission.

I had a problem with the transmission taking a few moments to go into reverse, then BANG, it would catch and make a loud noise. After the 3rd time taking the car in for this problem, they fixed it, but I insisted they pay for it, which they stubbornly agreed to.

General Comments:

Other than that problem, the car has been really great.

The mileage is okay ~30mpg.

The sunroof is a bit sticky.

I'm finally replacing the alternator at 160,000.

A $12 oil change gets you a car wash at Saturn Service.

People driving in front of me tend to pull out of the way, because the SC2 looks like some sports car, but after passing them they see it's just a Saturn and look a bit duped. Ha ha. At least it wasn't some 2 stroke sounding, lowered, pimped out Civic.

1993 Saturn SC SC1 1.9L from North America

Summary:

It's great, I wish I had known Saturn's were so reliable before!

Faults:

We had the car for about 2 days when the driver's side automatic seatbelt stopped working, which really, was more of an advantage...

The car was purple and weathered badly, it soon got a nice coat of metallic black:)

General Comments:

This car is awesome on gas and drives wicked on the highway.

This is my first manual transmission vehicle so I really enjoyed learning on the Saturn.

It never burns any fluids, at all.
