I had to replace the brakes within 2 months of purchasing the vehicle (but I did buy it used).
The car burns oil very quickly, I have to put a quart or two of oil in every 3 or 4 weeks.
This would be a great car for a first time driver or for someone with a small family (2 children max.) or for someone older without any young children.
Performance of this car fit my expectations since I didn't expect "muscle" in a Saturn.
I am not good with regular maintenance on vehicles and I have never kept up with changing the oil every 3000 miles, but this car runs the same now as it did when I first purchased it.
When I purchased the car I did not have any previous experience with Saturn but, after owning this car, I would purchase another Saturn product again.
You say you are not good on maintenance, sounds like the engine is already well-worn.
You have an oil-burning old clunker.
I don't see what's so good about it.
I have a 1999 Saturn with 125,000 miles on it. It has been reliable, I did all scheduled maintenance as suggested and it still burns oil very quickly.
My 1999 Sl has 165,000 kms on it (purchased used 3 yrs ago) and I have to top the oil up approx. once a month.
