1999 Subaru Impreza Sport 2.0 non turbo from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Wet dream on wheels

Faults:

Nothing so far. Only had it two months mind.

Slight rattling noise from underneath the dash board.

General Comments:

As with the previous review for a Scooby sports non turbo. It is not as fast as I thought it would be. That is not to say it can't shift pretty quickly.

Handling is good, and it is even better if you religiously stick to the 32/29 (front/back) PSI wheel air pressure.

Petrol consumption is a bit on the high side. But the car's looks more than compensate for it.

My next car is going to be a WRX.

1999 Subaru Impreza Turbo 2.0 turbo petrol from UK and Ireland

Summary:

For the money nothing touches it!

Faults:

Nothing wrong but the first years service (15,000 miles) cost almost £800 after it needed 4 new tyres and new front pads (yes I drive it quickly, but isn't that what it's for?).

General Comments:

Fun isn't the word, you start to feel you need more power but a glance at the speedo reminds you of what speed you are really doing. Perhaps the car is too good?

The dealership organized a FREE track day (and it rained) to really test your skills.

Bit miffed at the running costs but we have to complain about somthing don't we!

1999 Subaru Impreza Sport 2.0 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

The only option if you can't afford a Turbo!

Faults:

Radiator hose was loose and lost some water, that's all.

General Comments:

You need to keep the revs up, not as powerful as I thought it would be but I can't afford the insurance for a Turbo because of my age. Otherwise a great car all round for looks, comfort and driveability.

1999 Subaru Impreza Turbo 5dr 2.0 turbo petrol from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde

Faults:

Rattle from rear door.

General Comments:

The wagon is very discreet. It looks like a Japanese shopping trolley. It is also very practical.

While the interior may be a bit naff, it is obvious where Subaru have spent their time and money. The flat 4 engine sounds wonderful and just keeps on pulling. The 4wd system gives extraordinary grip, wet or dry.

This is a real junior supercar.

1999 Subaru Impreza Turbo 2000 2.0 turbo from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Nothing comes remotely close for grip and performance for the price

Faults:

Absolutely nothing.

General Comments:

Can't be beaten for traction in the wet even under hard acceleration; it refuses to let go. As for the dry, most other cars are left trailing in your wake. You think you need more power while driving, such is its composure, but glancing down at the speedo you have second thoughts when you realise how fast you are going.

1999 Subaru Impreza RB5 Turbo from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Try one, you won't be disappointed

Faults:

PIAA spotlights seem to have a mind of their own concerning direction. Gearchange a little notchy.

General Comments:

Fantastic, especially in the wet. Watch the turbo lag, especially when accelerating out of corners. Handles like it's on rails, though can be a tad wallowey when really really pushing it. Fuel consumption a major headache. Otherwise faultless.

Do you know how to fix the PIAA spotlights so that they don't wander?

1999 Subaru Impreza Turbo 4x4 2.0 turbo petrol from UK and Ireland

Faults:

Nothing as yet, car is only a little over 4 months old.

General Comments:

This is my third Impreza, A standard European model turbo, previous included 93 WRX (280) and 98 STi Vers V Coupe. This one is nowhere near as frightening as the other two.

Truly a performance car.

1999 Subaru Impreza 22B WRC 2.2 turbo petrol from Australia and New Zealand

Faults:

Everyone wants to steal it I guess.

General Comments:

Nothing beats the 22B, I raced a fully worked EVO 6, Holden GTS, relatively new GT Starlet 1.6 w/ 18psi boost, version 4 WRX and fully worked 89 RS, and guess who won, after 20-30 seconds the rearview mirror was empty. And it looks mean with the 17" Sparcos too.

1999 Subaru Impreza Turbo AWD 5dr 2.0 turbo petrol from UK and Ireland

Faults:

Some buzzing noises from the door speakers (sorry to nit pick). Idiots denting doors in car parks - they seem a little vulnerable to dents - thin metal?

General Comments:

The performance is unmatched for the money - 1 mark off because it is easy enough to be caught off boost. It is not a slick, comfortable, classy fast car like a 328i, but it costs £10k less, is faster, less likely to leave you backwards in a hedge if you are stupid, has better brakes and handling and is anonymous in 5dr form (to me this is an advantage). However, I would prefer a 528i or something next as I have now done the mad bad turbo thing.
