I got the car when it was seven years old, and now it's ten. In the 3 years I've had it, I've only had to replace the muffler and get the brakes done. In the last few months it's lost some power. It kicks a little when it changes gear. But considering these are the only problems it has at its age, I'm quite satisfied.
The most reliable car you can get, no doubt. This one won't leave you stranded.
The most reliable car you can get? I beg to differ. My '88 Camry was such a lemon, with numerous oil leak problems (over $1,000 spent), brake problems, starting problems, and very poor build quality! The car died on me at a busy intersection during rush hour. Had to get a cop to help me push the car out of the road. How dependable is that?
I own an 89 Camry with only 28,000 miles (hard to believe right?) This is my second car and although it is so old, its wonderful! Haven't had any problems yet, just a bad muffler. This car has been wonderful to me!
I had the misfortune to purchase an 89 Camry Deluxe at an auction about a month and a half ago. I don't know where the previous owner had the damn thing, there's rust damn near everywhere, it leaks a ton of oil, and has electrical problems up the a**. Damnit.
I own an 89' camry. I live in north america. in moncton to be exact this car has been the best car we have ever owned the only problems we had with it were rust, these cars rust!!! get them under cotded, muffler < to be expcted though, we had it for three years it finally died a bought a month ago this car is highly recomended to any one who wants a very reliable car it only died on me once bad batt, but that is not the cars fault. the body is what died : (best car we ever had.
I own a 1989 Camry deluxe paid 200.00 for the car it has a little rust since I bought it in april of 02 I've had a few problems it does leak some oil from the front crankshaft seal that cost me 15.00 to fix and about 3 hours of my time I had to replace the front rotors and brakes spent 90.00 on that and 1 hr of my time had to put an alternator the rear taillight sensor and a few other parts on it, but it still has been really reliable the car has 240,000 miles on it and still runs surely people understand that when a car is 14 yrs old and that type of mileage its going to have some problems, but I would recommend it to anyone that would by one.
Hi everyone,
I have a 1989 Toyota Camry 2.0, its my first car and generally is very good. Considering its done over 200,000 kms its still going strong, however there are some minor problems. The indicator arm is playing up, if you try to put the right indicator on it won't stay in position and flashes ridiculously fast, it has to be held there every time you want to turn right, quite annoying. Also there is quite a bit of vibration when accelerating from about 20 to 60 (km). If anyone knows what is causing these problems, any help would be much appreciated. Other than these minor problems the car is great, and considering how hard I make it work it's a credit to Toyota's reputation of keep on keeping on.

I have had my 1989 Camry for 4 years now. I will drive this car until it falls apart. I also, have only replaced the muffler and breaks. Just the usual wear and tear. My Camry has about 180k miles. Just three weeks ago I drove this car from Atlantic City, NJ to Central Florida. As, you know, that's a long ride. Well, my Camry had no problem. There were times when I was doing well over 90 miles an hour! We made this trip in 18 hours. She didn't burn oil or overheat or anything. Oddly enough, my fiance was following me the whole time in a 1987 Honda Prelude. I have been impressed with these two makes of vehicle, but after this trip I will never buy anything else.
