1996 Toyota Carina E 2.0 turbo diesel from UK and Ireland

Faults:

Nothing after 66k apart from an over-sensitive alarm system (now fixed free of charge).

General Comments:

Very reliable large roomy family work horse. A pleasure to drive although I was given a 1.8 litre petrol Carina as a courtesy car during a service and I wasn't impressed with it at all.

Dear Steve,

Your comments on the Toyota Carina E were very good. I have a Carina E 2.0 TD GS. The only problem I'm having is the remote control won't open the doors and when I go to open the doors by using the key, the alarm goes off and the engine gets immobilized and so I'm unable to start the car.

Your survey suggests that this problem can be rectified free of charge. Would I have to take it to any Toyota dealer, or is there some other procedure. Please advise. Thanking you very much.

1996 Toyota Carina CD 1.8 from UK and Ireland

Faults:

Nothing has gone wrong. Touch wood!

Air con had to be recharged, and that is it.

General Comments:

These cars are great for the family, they are cheap to run ie (42mpg), have plenty of room and all the extras you get are fantastic ie A/C, leather, CD player and the list goes on.

They might not be the best looking car out there but I rate it high.

It is so not boring to drive, what would you consider exciting to drive, a car that continually broke down or blewup, or what??

I agree, these cars are not boring to drive, in fact I have great fun driving mine. Years ago I owned a Renault 21 Turbo, it was quick and handled like it was on rails, but I hated the sight of it because it was such an unreliable, rattly, electrical nightmare. I love my Carina because it just goes on and on without any problems whatsoever and it has a cracking engine, and is simply a pleasure to own.

I have never driven an exciting car. Even the new bmw mini feels like an old pensioner car.

You need to learn to enjoy it and it will then be exciting. Always think of the reliability.
