"Very reliable, heavy on fuel and is slow"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Clonk rear of car when turning car in low gear;

Juicy during winter months;

General comments?

Very reliable.

Quiet engine.

Reasonably fast, but not outstanding.

Can drink fuel: 20 mpg in town alone and 30 mpg on motorway.

However, if I drive at 50 MPH on motorway constantly I get 55 MPG.

Quite spacious;

Tyre wear heavy, heard they last 20k miles.

Very ugly;

Quite interesting comments about your cars fuel consumption that suggests to me you have a problem, possibly a blocked PCV valve or air filter.

I own a 1995 2.0 executive and easily attain 30mpg around town and up to 42mpg on the motorway.

The Toyota 3F-SE engine is normally a very fuel efficient engine, possibly the best in its class, so I would look into it if I were you also those problems would blunt performance.

Also I don't think a 0-60 time of 8.8secs is slow for a car of its size coupled with a lot of torque through the rev range.

If you think a Carina is ugly, just check out a Renault Vel Satis, Fiat Multipla or Yaris Estate, now they are cars are would REALLY call ugly.

The Carina is a purely functional looking car neither ugly nor stunningly attractive.

I just got myself a 1992 2 litre Toyota Carina Executive. I only paid £380 for it. Actually, I think it is fairly pretty. It is purple, which I'm not sure about, but for the price... It has a lovely automatic gearbox and it has only done 86000 miles.

The built-in radio is OK, but the CD player isn't too good. It skips tracks if you even breathe hard. Other than that, I'm quite happy with it overall.
