2010 Toyota Corolla Sport from North America

Summary:

Good Car - No contact from Toyota about gas pedal defect

Faults:

When coming to a stop on rough pavement, the anti-lock braking system kicks in, making it feel like braking has been lost. Seems to be a problem with the electronic sensing system. It's scary to lose sensation of braking while pressing the brakes to come to a stop. Toyota should look into their braking software.

General Comments:

Pleased with car performance, style, reliability. Very disappointed in Toyota. There's been all the bad news about sticking accelerator pedals, yet Toyota still hasn't sent me any information about it?

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

You don't have to wait for a letter or to be contacted. Make an appointment at the dealer. Mine goes in tomorrow..

Why anyone would wait on a safety defect defies logic. Even if it's financial.

How anyone could possibly call a brand-new car "reliable", if simply applying the brakes makes them uncomfortable, also seems to defy logic. I can't think of any two features more important on a car than the accelerator and the brakes. If one doesn't work, and the car is brand new, than that car really is a piece of junk.

We have a 2010 Corolla and we love it. We also have a 2005 Corolla, and have never had a problem with it.

The stability control in the 2010 seems to work just like it is supposed to. The car feels different when it kicks in, and you can tell that the wheels are grabbing the road. I think that it probably just takes some getting used to.

I have owned Chevy's, Ford's and VW's in the past. I ended up working on every one of them. The things that went wrong with each of them are too numerous to list. My Toyota's are the most reliable cars I have ever owned.

And, I get 30 MPG in the city - almost 40 on the highway.

I would gladly buy another Toyota, but these two will probably last the rest of my life. They may not be luxury cars, but they get me where I am going without trouble.

I have an 09 Corolla, and I posted before about a similar problem with the brakes, but on a dirt road. The anti-lock system engages way too early, and as a result locks up the tires and leaves you sliding until you release some pressure to the pedal. This was an issue in the early days of ABS where occasionally a manufacturer would defeat anti-lock when 4wd was engaged.

Don't wait for the dealer to send you anything. Call, and take it in until someone listens. If that fails, try going to the local media.
