I have a 1978 Toyota Wolverine short bed. I am looking for a magazine that featured the truck.

Thanks Danny.

Mine has no trouble on highways at 70mph, and it's got everything original (minus small parts like filters etc) on it but the emissions control stuff.

I'd say it tops out more realistically around 90 on a downhill. :)

Also, as to winning races, someone's '77 is on youtube beating a Mustang, though the Toyota has had a V8 engine swap... still fun to watch that cute little truck go so fast!

My '77 has had a couple things done, like no muffler, and I took the emissions crap off. My bed's bobbed 15 inches and I have no carpet, so I believe mine might be lighter than most, but it tops out at 98mph.

I have had my 77 up to 103 on flat land freeway. I love my 77, but my gas mileage is crap; about 12 on the freeway and about 3 in the city.

I need help adjusting my carb. Someone please help. Email me at shannonryanpatzer@gmail.com

I have a 1977 SR5, just like this truck. 20R, 5-speed. The writer says that 70 is top speed and that either means his truck is running incorrectly, or there’s some issue with it. My truck regularly sees well over 70, and I have hit 100mph on the flat multiple times. This is bone stock other than a 32/36 Weber just like the writer’s truck. Stock tire size on stock rims. Speedometer is GPS verified at being about 2mph high at about 70mph. Even with this accounted for, the truck has plenty of oomph to accelerate rapidly in 5th. I commute regularly with the truck and it happily spends most of its life around 75-85mph with zero issues.

My truck also has the dealer optional Nippondenso AC unit, which I charged successfully with R12 and it’s never leaked. Ice cold and barely has any noticeable draw on engine power at all. Will still do above 80 even with the AC on.

Just figured I’d add this as a lot of people seem to think these trucks don’t make much power, despite having almost the exact same power to weight ratio as a full size ‘90s Chevy pickup with a TBI 350.

Wolverines were manufactured in the Southern California LA area by Specialized Automotive.
