I definitely agree with the above comment. Toyota’s aren’t what they used to be. My mother owns a 2004 Lexus ES330 which has been such an amazing bulletproof car that the engine and transmission is still going strong at 200,000 miles. Even the suspension is still original and the car still rides so soft and comfortably with no squeaks and rattles.

The only real issues she has had with the car is the power steering pump has a slight leak, including the hose which will be replaced soon, but as far as other repairs, there have been none.

Plus the paint, the interior, just everything about her Lexus, is so well built and long lasting. The materials that went into the older Toyota products from decades ago, truly were superior, including their engines and transmissions. The non DI engines, the basic fuel injection 2.5L and 3.0, 3.3L V6 were one of Toyota’s finest made engines that are very refined and super reliable.

I know the new Toyota’s are cheaply made and way too plasticky, because my boss owns a 2019 Toyota Camry, and the interior in that car screams “cheap”!! The doors have this hollow tinny sound to it when you close the door. The door panels are flimsy and crappy, the seats are hard as a rock in the back. Just everything about the new Camry is a downgrade as far as material quality goes compared to the previous generations. Sure they might be technically advanced and offer the latest and greatest features, but their quality sure isn’t what it used to be like it was back in the 90’s-early 2000’s.

Both Toyota and Honda are not doing well in these times. The Civic has too many problems, engine being one of them. Mazda is a little better, Nissan has been hiding somewhere, Subaru has transmission, sensors and even engine problems (faulty tensioners difficult to replace). It's not a good time for car quality.
