1989 Toyota Supra from North America - Comments

"Very cool, but very expensive to keep up with and repair"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

The only problem I have and have had with my car since I got it is that it over heats. We've replaced practically everything in the coolant part of the car. First my water pump was leaking, then my fan clutch went bad (twice), and then the radiator started leaking. I really don't know what is wrong with it, because everything has been replaced, but the radiator and the water pump. I pray it's one of those.

General comments?

I love my car, it has a little too much power for a new driver like me, but it's awsome. It has leather interior, the nice expensive TEMS system and that little thing will get up and go. As long as I get this over heating problem fixed and don't end up wrecking it, I'm not selling it. However, if a buyer has to go through all the things that I have gone through with this supra, I don't recommend anyone to buy it.

I would look into getting the headgasket replaced to cure your overheating problem. It was a common problem on the Supras for the headgaskets to blow out causing over-heating, etc. The reason for the problem was in the incorrect torquing of the head bolts at the factory. The head bolts were not tightened enough causing premature gasket failure. Although that is my best guess on your problem, I cannot provide an estimate because I haven't done one before. Anyway, enjoy your Supra and good luck getting that overheating problem fixed!

Run your engine codes, overheating can be caused by air in the coolant system "burp" it. do a search on burping the coolant system and it will loosely tell you how to do it, burping will also help in a "running water" noise behind the dash.
