1985 Toyota Van Basic 4 cylinder from North America

Summary:

Love it

Faults:

Nothing. Only had it since last September.

General Comments:

Mine is a conversion van with pop-up top. It has the pogo problem, which I plan to fix with new springs and shocks.

Question... My wife and I plan to drive throughout Mexico for 4 months this winter. Has anyone done it? Can you find parts?

1985 Toyota Van LE 2.0 from North America

Summary:

Fantastic!

Faults:

Did not operate when purchased.

It had sat idle growing weeks and moss for 7 years.

I have repaired or replaced gas line and tank, muffler, alternator, tuned-up.

Purchased window motors.

I am approaching $2500 in parts and labor since buying it.

General Comments:

Ten years ago a friend told me about Toyota Vans but I paid little attention. When gas hit $4 a gallon I purchased this TV to get some relief and it has been the best purchase I ever made next to my Mac and my house.

Even though it is not completely restored... it is running and getting over 20 per gallon. I get comments and turned heads daily because many others know of this Van's reputation. Every person I have talked with who has owned one makes the same comments about it's reliability and how they wish they still had theirs. They speak of trips crossing the country, mountains and raising kids and camping. When I ask other owners if they are interested in selling theirs, they look at me like I must be crazy.

I don't think I will ever own another vehicle because it fits my life style perfectly.

I wish I could do my own tune-ups though.

My biggest fear is it being stolen so I plan on making this prospect quite difficult.

If you have one and want to sell it contact me qpq123@yahoo.com

1985 Toyota Van LE 2.0 from North America

Summary:

Best van ever made!

Faults:

Exhaust pipes replaced, alternator replaced 4 times, power steering pump and lines replaced, radiator boiled and reinstalled but overall cheap and easy to keep running even after 24 years.

General Comments:

I love this van. It looks like nothing else on the road. Mine has the fridge/ice-maker in the front console, front and rear a/c and dual sunroofs. The rear sunroof is huge and my friends like to stand up and wave at people like we're in a parade. Definitely a fun car to use for camping and road trips. As a musician this vehicle allows me to haul lots of gear and people too. Not much as far as pickup or speed but it has been a great car. Bought for $1000 about 5 years ago and I put about $500 a year into it to keep it running.

1985 Toyota Van LE 2.0 from North America

Summary:

This van has made my day

Faults:

I just bought this car two days ago, so nothing has gone wrong so far!

General Comments:

I absolutely love this van!

It has made driving fun again: I cannot believe how many girls yell at me or pull me over to see it!

As far as performance goes, I'm getting roughly 30 miles to the gallon with this van.

The craftsmanship on this van is so very evident from the time I took my first look at the engine. The engine is clean, solid and well built.

I lucked out big time on this. I paid $700.00 for it from an older man who bought it in 85, and used it lightly.

The interior is roomy, I love the giant windshield and that you sit a little higher: You get a great view of the country side, etc. And the seats are very comfy!

The things I have yet to fix on this are:

Power windows don't work.

Wheel alignment.

Squeaky belt.

Otherwise it runs like a top, and if you ever get a chance to get a good running Toyota van.. get it! It's sporty, utilitarian and built like a tank! (True story: A friend of mine has had one for 7 years. It's been around the states on a tour twice and stolen twice! It still runs like a top!)

I'm probably going to buy a junked one for parts. I want to drive this for as long as I can! In fact, I'm getting it painted metallic red in the spring.

The bottom line on this van is that it is a great buy, notoriously great craftsmanship, great fuel economy and very user friendly design!

Props to Toyota!
