This update is from a bit more than two years ago, but don’t worry – my Vios is still alive and kicking today, as I’m updating now. Since the last update, quite a few things happened.

The original T4.2 bulb for the aircon dash finally burnt out. I replaced the second one with an LED, while the other T4.2 bulb had been replaced years ago. The rear brake pads were replaced a few years after the front pair of pads were replaced.

Not long after, I noticed the alternator fault light flashed occasionally on the multifunction display, so I replaced the alternator’s carbon brushes only.

I also took care of the brake lights — I think that was the third or fourth set so far. Usually, the brake lights would turn on all the time when my brake pedal stopper pad fell out, but I fixed that also. I’ve already replaced the brake pedal stopper pad twice.

At some point, the left-hand rear door jammed closed when opening from the outside – and it’s not the child lock. I learnt that replacement part is interchangeable with a certain other brand car. It is heartening to know spares are still easily available! Can I make it to thirty years old?

I noticed the battery was getting weak, so I topped it up with deionized water. It lasted close to two more years, but eventually, I had to use a jump starter to crank the engine. So, I replaced the battery. One day, the fuel pump suddenly died — just about a month after I replaced the fuel filter. Lesson learnt: if it isn’t soiled, don’t touch it!

The rocker gasket was replaced after I saw some oil building up in the spark plug chamber, and it even flooded a couple of the ignition coil boots. I re-tightened the fan belt. Lastly, I replaced the right-hand front door check-stopper because the friction pads were worn out — causing the door to swing open or close on its own, especially in the wind.

OK, that’s all for now! Till then!!
