2001 Vauxhall Corsa Easytronic 1.2 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Worst car

Faults:

This is most worst car I ever had.. Car garage is unable to find the exact fault. It stopped in the middle of the road and was taken to garage where this mechanic changed some parts, and later he declared something wrong with either the gear box or motor unit or both.. so you need to change whole gear box including motor unit.. however he is still not 100% sure of fault.. what should I do?

Should the Vauxhall company would be helpful? I strongly recommend not to buy this car.. it's a pain, not a pleasure at all.

General Comments:

This car is not worth buying.. main problem with it is its Easytronic (semiautomatic) gear box.

2001 Vauxhall Corsa Club 1.0 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Piece of rubbish

Faults:

Pretty much everything has gone wrong with this car!

Electronics shorting out.

Wheel bearings needed replacing at 3 years old when I first bought it.

Gear linkage failed at 52000 miles.

Several oil leaks.

Banging and creaking noises etc.

Wheel alignment goes out on a regular basis without hitting pot holes!! Usually needs doing about every 3 months or so.

NOW it won't start!! Being picked up today to have it fixed and spend more money!

Have spent more in repairs than I did to buy the car itself! What a piece of junk, I will take it to the woods and set fire to it!

General Comments:

Poor handling, lack of power, boring interior with no luxuries.

2001 Vauxhall Corsa SXi 1.2 16v from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Nice Looking Car - Under the skin its cheap and nasty

Faults:

Faulty Wipers - Squeaking (Car was New)

Real Wheel Cylinder Leaking (6 months)

Heater Resistor x 3 (Over 3 years)

Heater Blower (Caused resistors to fail)

Steering Rack (Knocks and clunks) (2 years)

Gear Linkage (4th year)

Steering Column - Was faulty in year two, but only now managed to get vauxhall to replace it FOC

Central Locking actuator x 2 (Over 2 years)

Lower Column (1st year)

Main Beam Wiring Tight - needed replacement

Cracked Front Spring

Rear Light filled up with water due to manufacture fault.

For the first three years of its life it spent a total of 30 days in a Vauxhall Dealership.

General Comments:

Very badly designed car. GM have cut so many corners in the design of the corsa, by using cheap shoddy parts.

For example the original gear linkage was made out of nylon/plastic!! It lasts all of a year. They replace them with a modified part using metal joints!

When it works the car is a nice drive, but I was always waiting for something else to break on it. Never had any faith in it. I've really looked after it though.

2001 Vauxhall Corsa Club 1.0 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Great car for the small family

Faults:

The Gear Shift link had to be replaced at 50000 miles. When I went to the Opel dealer (Irish version of Vauxhall) they told me that it was a common fault on early 2001 models, but I was not covered by the warranty at that stage. Around 100 euro to replace.

A sensor went in the engine at 70000 miles. The car started fine, but would cut out when slowing down for junctions. With a full service, the repair cost 400 euro.

The oil switch has had to be replaced 3 times. Although the switch and service is relatively cheap, it has lead to oil drips on my drive.

General Comments:

I bought this car when I lived in London. It was great for driving to work, and getting around. After 2 years I had clocked up 17000, and then moved to Ireland. I have since clocked up a further 60000 miles without any real issues.

The car is exceptionally quick and nippy, even on the motorway, uphill, etc., with just the driver onboard. With extra people, you quickly notice the performance difference.

I have 3 small kids, and it is a squeeze to fit them in the back.

The fuel consumption is brilliant - 350 miles for a full tank costing 35-40 euro.
