1999 Vauxhall Vectra SRi review from UK and Ireland

Rear suspension squeaks when going over speed bumps.

Front sway bar link rods needed replacing.

Welds broke on catalytic converter heat shield, causing it to rattle.

I really like the way this car looks in the SRI spec, which I have. The interior is very nicely laid out and made with good quality materials. The seats are very firm, but also supportive and comfortable on long rides.

The steering is a bit too heavy for my liking, and only has tilt and no telescopic function, which makes it difficult to get a comfortable driving position.

The gear shift on this car is bad, it's awkward to use, too heavy and too far away from the driver.

This car has a great stock sound system, the A/C blows ice cold and mine also has an electric sunroof, which is nice. The trip computer is also a good feature.

The 2.5 V6 is a good engine. It squeaks a bit when cold and has a few flat spots in the rev range, however it is very smooth, revs easily to the redline, and will also pull from low down. It is also not too bad on fuel, it can achieve over 35mpg on the motorway at 70mph.

I have metallic paint on mine, and it is in good shape and still has a good shine to it. The car does have a few rust spots on the front doors, on the corner of the rear arches where they meet the bumper, and one on the roof by the windscreen. I don't think this is acceptable for a car that is only 10 years old.

This car handles very well. I have Yokohama tires on it, there is lots of grip with minimal understeer and body roll, even when pushed hard. However the suspension is too stiff and doesn't feel solid when going over any ground that isn't smooth.
