Following on from previous.

It would seem the petrol must have been the problem, as the light went out when the tank was near empty. Just been to get more petrol, and now there is no engine management light showing. My diagnosis for now is a faulty batch of unleaded petrol.

Hi, I have a 02 Zafira Comfort, and have had this from nearly new, no problems with it at all, just the last 6/9 months, juddering, loss of acceleration, and will not go above 60mph, but if you change to low gear and rev it, this seems to clear the problem.

Recently had a full service and no codes come up, had the timing belt etc replaced, garage took car out and felt the judder, ran checks again, still no codes, can't explain it, can anyone else help, cause it's driving me mad?

HI.

Had my '99 V reg 1.6 Comfort for nearly two years, thought it was far better than the piece of... Megane I left behind.

Boy was I wrong.

So far had:

New coil pack.

Lambda sensor.

Crank sensor.

Head gasket (which promptly blew again just before Christmas).

New head, gasket and all the gubins.

And now she is running too hot, EML (the lightning bolt) came on for the rest of my journey home today, smells of oil and runs like a pig.

Anyone who reads this, NEVER, NEVER NEVER... NEVER by one of these cars. Yes the seats are cool, yes it's a great idea, but really, do you want a car that spends its life in the garage???

Owned a 1.6 Club on an 02 plate for the last 4 1/2 years, and in that time have put 75,000 miles on the clock. Now at 8 years old and 105K on the clock, I've recently had problems with engine management light coming on, stalling and high oil consumption. Local garage has fixed kit to block air recirculation valve. Car was fine for a few weeks and oil consumption dropped, but the problem has now started again. Currently waiting to hear back from the garage as to fix and cost.

Read a few of the other comment and lots of folk are knocking the old Zafira. Even though mine is now giving me problems, I still think it's a fantastic family car, and would definitely buy another.

I can't believe how many cars are having the same problems.

I bought my car 8 months ago. 10 days after buying the car, the head gasket went.

Now like many of you it, loses power on the motorway. I've had the EGR valve changed and cleaned, and a new fuel pump, spark plugs done. Apparently I need a closing gasket put on; I don't know what it is exactly I'm that having done this week, I've tried nearly everything to fix the car from losing power. I'm losing hope in it, I think I could end up getting rid as nobody, for example Vauxhall, has a clue.

If anybody knows the cure, please could you tell me. I have 4 kids, and like 1 lass said, it is very dangerous on the motorway. Please help.

We have had a 1.6 Zafira for a couple of years, and I am sick of the poor petrol consumption and regular oil top-ups required.

The engine management light comes on at random, and I'm sure these lights are over sensitive to generate dealer income.

If the light comes on under warranty, the dealer resets the light.

If it comes on out of warranty, the dealer cashes in on the 'repair' charge and the diagnostic charge! A win-win situation for the stealer dealer.

Unfortunately this rip off is not just confined to Vauxhall dealers, it seems widespread.

Buy a good 10 year old VW or Audi!!!

I have Y reg Zafira that seems to live at the garage LOL. It's had so many new parts it's practically new again!

My new problem this week is that I keep losing power for a few seconds, and then regaining power for a few seconds and so on when the engine is hot, causing me to buck my way down the road like I can't drive! (not very safe with kids in the car)

Local garage has advised that it could be the coil pack needs replacing, and if that doesn't work, it would have to be investigated further. The problem is I don't want to buy a new coil pack if it's not that.

Has anyone else ever had this problem, and what caused it???

Any advice very appreciated, cos I'm at the end of my tether.

Many thanks.

I have a 02 Zafira 1.6. Over the last 2 years I have had nothing but problems with it. It's had new parts fitted ie:

2 new coil packs, 2 EGR valves, 2 02 sensors, new cat and exhaust system, new thermostat, map sensor throttle body, purge valve, oil and spark plug change every 6 months, 2 fuel filters.

In my case I have been lucky to have the software for the laptop to plug into the car for fault codes. I got the software on Ebay. You get all the bits you need to plug into the car for £19.99.

I'm able to do the repairs myself, but now in the last 5 months, it's been running bad, stalling, loss of power, won't even go up small hill above 20MPH.

No codes are even showing up when I plug the laptop into the car and take it on a live run. All sensors show that it is working fine, no faults. But the car is running rough.

I'm not going to spend any more money on it. It's now time for it to go. It was good when it worked, but now I hate the sight of it. How many times do you hear of a Zafira being stolen? Even the the car thieves are not daft enough to steal them, as they know they won't get far before they break down! My advice would be, get rid of your Zafira, as it will only cost you money without a cure.

My car is X reg 1.6 Zafira.

I've had the oil problem, after the spanner came on going down the motorway. I was told it was a low oil level. I topped it up and it was OK, it passed its MOT, about 6 months later it's started chugging when in 5th, mostly when going about 70 and when you drive along just pressing accelerator slightly on and off. Then coming off at the next junction, it stalled when stopped at around-a-bout. It has done this twice now on a short 30 min motorway trip, but was fine on same return trip home. I have tried fuel additive cleaning solution.

My Zafira 1.8 comfort 2000 is starting to have all of the above difficulties. Poor fuel consumption, drinking oil, and stalling at junctions. Going to replace it soon, but don't quite have the funds.

Yesterday when sat in traffic it became sluggish, every time I dipped the clutch the car stopped, the engine was still running but it was as if I had slammed on the brakes. I managed to continue for half a mile to get off a busy junction, but when the traffic cleared and I tried to accelerate in ND the power wasn't there. I pulled over, waited for break down and when he arrived it was fine!

I had a diagnostic test done and the knock sensor showed a fault. It was reset and the mechanic said it should be fine. Today I drove to work and the kids to school etc, all seemed fine. I went out again this evening and again, same problem, lack of power and unable to accelerate.

I have been told by one mechanic to book it in for the knock sensor, and another has said in 32 years he has never heard of a knock sensor going! I'm a single mum and don't have cash to throw away on a mechanic.

Hope he may know what's up with it! I do know that if the knock sensor goes the car is usually really noisy but this isn't happening to mine.

Any ideas? I need to get it sorted before my hols!
