1995 Volkswagen Golf CL 1.4 petrol from Croatia

Summary:

Excellent - if you have driven it you know; if you haven't - you don't know what you're missing

Faults:

Nothing. Everything works perfectly, like new.

General Comments:

This car has a 1.4 44kW AEX-coded engine. It's reliable and nice. Fuel consumption is 6-6,5 lit per 100 km, max speed is 170 km/h.

Original tires are 175/70 R13, but now I have 185/60 R14 Goodyear Excellence.

I use to say - I love this car, but I miss only two things: air conditioner, and servo steering.

My Golf is white colour code B9A, which is very easy to maintain. Once a month I do polish it, so I can tell that my baby is like new.

0-100 km/h=13,8 sec (if I'm alone in car, (I weigh 75 kg) )

1995 Volkswagen Golf Colour Concept 2.0 8v from UK and Ireland

Summary:

A real round the town car, not a performance monster

Faults:

Brakes warped and rusted extremely badly when not used for just over a month.

Leather on the rear quarter peeled off in the sun.

Engine cooling hose leaked over distributor causing shorting and miss-firing. This took over 3 months to diagnose as it was such a small leak, but due to the proximity was a big problem.

Bonnet catch kept moving preventing me from closing the bonnet.

Front headlight internal mount broke. Cost £75 for a new light.

General Comments:

I bought the car as a cheaper alternative to my old GSI Vectra, however the performance was so appalling of the 8v that I couldn't stand it. Over 10 seconds 0-62 is not GTi performance.

I ended up spending hundreds of pounds in an attempt to make it quicker with exhausts, induction kits, cams, chips etc.. but in the end it wasn't worth it. And don't get me started on how shoddy the brakes are!

On the plus side, if you want a car for your wife to potter around town in, then this would be great.

Heated colour coded leather seats, good driving position and excellent visibility really dragged this car up. Stock speakers were fairly good.

VW were always extremely helpful and parts were remarkably cheap, so thumbs up there.

1995 Volkswagen Golf GTi 1.8 16v petrol from UK and Ireland

Summary:

The hottest hatchback ever

Faults:

Air conditioning failed at 66,000 miles.

Ignition failed at 72,000 miles.

Exterior trim was very breakable.

General Comments:

Had one or two electrical faults and wasn't as well built as you might expect.

But the Golf had superb performance and its engine was as refined and reliable as could be.

It was a bit on the expensive side, as it was five years old when I bought it and set me back £6,500.

Fuel bills and dealer charges were on the high side, but the Golf proved to be worth every penny I paid for it.

By the time I finished with it, I sold it for £4,000 and the buyer still owns it now. I once asked them what they thought of it, and they remarked that it was the best car they had ever owned.

1995 Volkswagen Golf GL 2.0 from North America

Summary:

Volkswagens are awesome

Faults:

My car alarm won't stop going off and when I put the key in the door handle to disable it, it still won't shut off and I was wondering if anyone knows how to totally disable the alarm system.

General Comments:

It's a very nice car and its sad that a problem like this keeps it from running.

1995 Volkswagen Golf GL 2.0 Liter Gasoline from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Great Galloping Horsepower all the way to 60 MPH in 13.5 seconds!

Faults:

I have really had nothing major go wrong on my car. It is a great car and other than new tires, spark plugs, and a new timing and drive belt, I have had no other maintenance needed.

General Comments:

I love my car. It is fast, reliable, great on gas and fun to drive. It is easy to see out of and very responsive. The amenities that the car has stock are great such as the lowest model equipped with AC and power sunroof. I love that it has a security system too! Golfs look great and they are more uncommon than the Civics everyone drives.

Re the title of the review: You are quite probably joking, aren't you?

What planet are you living in. golfs are everywhere, way more popular than civic. 13.5 seconds is eternity.

13.5 galloping seconds?! My 700cc Robin Reliant is probably quicker than that.
