1997 Volkswagen Jetta GT 2.0 from North America

Summary:

Quick and agile

Faults:

After going through a car wash, the indicator chime kept sounding like broken record. It seemed to stop after a while.

Replaced front brakes at 56 000.

The clutch seems to "chatter" upon starting up.

General Comments:

It's zippy, it's fast. I used to have a pickup truck and I must admit it's nice having a smaller city car.

I hope it's continues to be reliable.

1997 Volkswagen Jetta GT 2.0 from North America

Summary:

This GT model is one of the best made

Faults:

Cup holder in back is broken.

Rear defogger light is out.

Replaced the power steering belt at 82K miles.

General Comments:

Though it's slow at take off, it's quick after 20 MPH. She takes corners easily, like riding on rails!

I love this car.

At 70 MPH it revs at 3200 revoltutions per minute, therefore it gets GREAT gas mileage!

Its nice to hear a good comment on these Jetta GT's. I have a '97 VW jetta GT and its been good to me so far. I did have to get a tune up, replace some belts, and get a get some other work done. The repairs were costly. I hope it will last for a while. Peace.

1997 Volkswagen Jetta GT 2.0 from North America

Summary:

Absolutely Love this car and I will drive it till it falls out from under me!!!

Faults:

Molding fell off the side (I put it back on and it has never been a problem again).

Fuel Gage stopped working at 3000 miles. (Which works for me because now I know that I get 420 miles to the tank, and I have for 6 years consistently!!!).

Water pump at 120000 (It was due).

General Comments:

I have 142,000 miles on her original clutch and it still rides just like it did when I drove it off the lot.

She has never left me stranded, EVER!!!

I am in the Navy, so I need a reliable car, and let me tell you. This is it!!!

I will drive this car until it falls out from under me.

It has been paid off for over two years and it still books for over $4,000.

I just bought my wife a new VR6 and we love it too.

Highly recommend this vehicle to anyone!!!

My experience with the 1997 Jetta GT 2.0L 5-speed has also been very good. 107,000 miles and getting identical gas mileage now as when I bought it used at 19,000 miles. At least 30 mpg every tank and I do stop and go traffic jam driving as well as highway during every tank. Actually, I usually get 31 or 32 mpg per tank. Like you said, 425 miles per tank. Clutch is still perfect. Aside from typically VW type glitches such as scraping noise inside steering column due to some type of air bag ring (replaced, but starting to scrape again), water leaking into trunk from both under and above, irritating lug nut caps that are expensive, only major trb was pinion gear that chipped not long after I bought it used. And that was probably a result of abuse by the original owner. New brakes at 88,000 (yes, 1st brake job), spark plugs & wires at 60,000 miles, cap & rotor at 60k and 95k, timing belt replaced as a precaution, and one anti-freeze leak fixed, new battery, new tires are the only things ever done on this car. Forgot to mention that door locks are very poor in the winter, freezing easily even when apparently lubricated.

Hey my modeling on my Jetta also fell off. I bought it used and I don't know how to put it back on. How did you get yours back on? Please e-mail me at Mandy_1_28@yahoo.com.

I will really be happy if you could do that for me. Thanks.

Summary:

A really cool ride

Faults:

I haven't had the car for very long, so nothing serious has gone wrong with it.

The brakes squeak a little, but I was told this wasn't a problem.

The moldings on the side panels are falling off.

General Comments:

I like this car a lot.

It is built very well, and feels very secure when driven.

It is great in the city because it is small and agile, and also great on the highway as it is smooth and stable at high speeds.

It has a surprisingly roomy interior, with a trunk that could fit a Volkswagen Golf!

As I said above, I haven't had the car long, but so far I enjoy the style of the car and am thoroughly impressed with its styling and performance.
