1999 Volkswagen Jetta GLS VR6 from North America

Summary:

A lot of fun to drive, but very delicate

Faults:

Tire belts seemed to separate.

Two window lifts failed and the windows fell into the doors.

The alternator failed at 10,000 miles.

Both water pumps leaked (secondary electric water pump, main mechanical water pump).

The AC radio never worked properly.

The coolant T on the back of the motor leaked.

The Glove compartment door hinge broke.

The coffee cup holder broke.

The spark pac failed.

The serpentine belt idler arm bearing failed.

The seat springs kept falling out due to the plastic tabs that they were attached to breaking.

The purge valve from the gas tank's evaporative cell failed and every time I filled the tank, the car's first start was difficult.

General Comments:

This car ran for 144 thousand miles. It was sporty, peppy and looked good, but it was very delicate. It was kept in a garage and waxed twice a year.

As the front seat springs fell out, the seats became very uncomfortable.

The fold down rear seats gave me an immense amount of trunk space. It sometimes served as my pick up truck.

Dealer maintenance strategy involved reading OBDII codes and fixing those problems. Other engine problems were extremely difficult to fix.

I did not like filling my compact car with high test gasoline, which was required.

1999 Volkswagen Jetta from North America

Summary:

The car is a piece of junk to put it lightly!

Faults:

The air has gone out twice.

The windows have fallen inside the doors many times.

The transmission has been replaced twice.

The headlights have broken (not just the bulb).

There has been an oil leak. The oil has poured out of the car.

The radiator has had to be replaced.

And many other countless things I cannot remember.

General Comments:

This car has caused me so much grief! I will never buy another Volkswagen again!!! The problems are not easy to fix because it is a foreign car and no one has the parts. Also the dealer rips you off if you need anything fixed.

If I can give you one piece of advice, never buy a Volkswagen, you will hate yourself for it!

Summary:

Major piece of crap

Faults:

1999 Jetta Wolfsburg Edition.

Water leak in passenger seat floor, trickles on driverside floor, and behind drivers seat.

Backseat driver window falls down by itself.

Check engine light stays on.

Too many plastic parts.

Seats cling junk to them; it's yucky.

Backseat cup holder broke very easily.

A/c is loud.

When I make turns, you can hear a massive amount of water flowing somewhere, and the A/C vent will sound muffled for a moment, and then the water pours!

1999 Volkswagen Jetta Wolfsburg 2.0 from North America

Summary:

Junk

Faults:

Everything has gone wrong except the engine and transmission.

1) Windows, all regulators changes, 2 motors

2) Coil - replaced 4 times

3) Check engine light - Constantly on but always for a reason: Bad engineering! (I placed a square of black tape over the light, and now it's gone! For free!!!)

4) Radio volume button: goes up when you want it lower. Nice touch with the elderly and babies in the car...

I could go on and on, but I don't have a week.

General Comments:

WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER VW IN MY LIFE, and I won't feel sorry when they do go out of business.

I sprayed some Ignition Dry'N Go on the distributor cap, all the connections, and where the spark plugs are located (engine must be cool), no more problems. The engine does not like humidity... especially after a car wash, the engine would miss a few beats...
