2000 Volkswagen Jetta GLS from North America

Summary:

Very Poorly Produced Car!!Beware!!!

Faults:

Just about everything. Window regulators 3 times, twice in the dead cold of winter, brakes needed new rotors at 25K, interior lights stopped working at 28K and the dealership still can't get them to work, the door panel on the passenger side has been repaired twice, overall this is a poorly manufactured car with poor materials.

General Comments:

They really make this car look good, seems like you're getting a German luxury car for the price of a stripped down Accord, but it's really just a very poorly made product. I'll take the stripped down Accord any day!!!

2000 Volkswagen Jetta GLS 1.8 from North America

Summary:

Farfromgood

Faults:

To start I had the O2 sensor go right off the bat. No problem the dealer fixed it.

The pass window fell into the door twice and luckley the dealer fixed that too.

The car knocks over a big bump if I'm turning or always when going in reverse and turning the wheel. The dealer has had it many times, but can never find what is wrong with it.

Then they broke my cup holder and never called me back when the part came in to fix it.

My center console clip broke just driving down the road.

The pass seat broke while trying to push it back. Not under warranty so that is just another problem.

It burns oil out the wazoo and the dealer says it is fine. Where does the oil go? It is a closed system and should only come out when the oil is changed.

The oil pan also has a leak, but the dealer said it is so minor they won't fix it. Hello it is leaking and will only get worse.

General Comments:

I would not ever recommend this car again and they only reason I still have it is because the economy and resale on used cars right now is low. I don't want another car payment as I only owe on this one for another year. Buy American next time for sure or at least a Honda.

This car is a nice looking lemon.

If you want a Volkswagen lease them only, that way they become Volkswagen's nightmare.

2000 Volkswagen Jetta GLS 2.0L from North America

Summary:

A fun car with poor workmanship and quality

Faults:

One week after the warranty finished the right strut mount needed to be replaced. Two months later it needed to be replaced again.

Three months later the passenger side ball joint needed to be replaced.

While fixing the ball joint the dealer broke the ABS sensor.

The ABS sensor they replaced it with was faulty and I had to come back to get it fixed once again.

Six months later the passenger side strut had to be replaced. When asked what had caused it to break the mechanic at Volkswagen said "I don't know, I've never seen a strut break like this before."

Most recent problem was that there was condensation in the engine oil and the rear brakes needed a complete overhaul i.e. pads, rotors and calipers!

Little things went wrong also; Door moldings fell off, the glove box hinge broke, a plastic piece in the gas door motor broke and thus I couldn't open the door to fill the car with gas, the latch on the folding seat broke etc. etc. etc.

General Comments:

This was a fun car to drive. It was peppy took corners moderately well and has a nice interior. Fuel economy was also good.

I was disgusted by the quality of workmanship that went into this car. My friend has an '86 Jetta built in Germany with 280K Km and it's still going strong.

I have now purchased a 2002 Acura RSX Premium and love it.
