2001 Volkswagen Jetta 1.8T from North America

Summary:

It's an OK car. I think that the problems start increasing once the car gets older.

Faults:

I own a 2001 Jetta. I can't put the car in reverse without letting it warm up first, or else the car starts shaking and sometimes just stops. I've had the part that's associated with this problem fixed, but it's still happening. Any ideas???

Also, I also have had trouble getting the car to shift out of part. At 117,000 miles, it just started happening. I called a VW dealership and they were helpful. They gave me a quick way to get it out of part temporarily for me to get the car to a dealership. It obviously happens to a lot of Jetta/VW car owners.

2001 Volkswagen Jetta VR6 from North America

Summary:

Great car until driven

Faults:

EPC light has come on multiple times, each time having to replace O2 sensors.

Check engine light has come on and blinks often, code says misfire in cylinder 6.

Crayon smell found!

Electric problems since having recall work done.

Rear cup holder broke, although never used.

Rear door panels frequently come loose from door.

Rear passenger door won't open sometimes, even though unlocked.

General Comments:

I own a 2001 VW Jetta VR6 5 speed. Used to be a great car.

I Received the recall information for the brake light switch. Took it to the dealer to have it fixed, also had the 80,000 mile tune-up done while there. When picking up the car noticed that the interior dome light switch had been broken while in the dealership. Dealership refused to fix it, said it was broken before car brought in. Ever since having recall work done, I've had nothing, but electrical problems with the car. Interior lights work sometimes. Stereo speakers and cd player only work sometimes. Electric seats don't work most of the time. Now there's another recall for the same part, I'm afraid to take it back in.

Now the check engine light has come on, and blinks intermittently. I had the code read, says it's a misfire in cylinder 6. Had wires and plugs changed, car running worse than before.

My car also smelled like crayons. Just thought there was a crayon lost in the car somewhere. I've had many people tell me that they know someone that has a Jetta and it too smells like crayons. But to my surprise I did find a piece of broken crayon tucked into the rear, driver side seat. And I mean tucked, I had to pull apart the seat back to find it wedged in the foam cushion. After removing the crayon, no more crayon smell.

I am trying buy a 2000 VOLKSWAGEN GLS VR6 it has 172,000km and is misfiring in all cylinders and the engine light has been going off when the car is turned on. but the price is good and its fully loaded and I need something I can get around with and still like at the same time. so if anyone could tell me how much the cost is and is it worth fixing for. and as well if I take it back for the recall on the light will the car be worst?

2001 Volkswagen Jetta GLX 1.8T from North America

Summary:

I love my car, but the cost of repairs is large

Faults:

Both front windows went down and never went back up the mechanism in the window was a recall, but only after I had mine fixed at a cost.

Water pump broke at 86000 miles.

The day after the water pump broke the battery went dead. A week later with all that fixed and now my check engine light is on and will not go off. The problem with Volkswagen is that it is hard to find a mechanic who is willing to work on them and the dealer is a wreck. They have messed up more things than I have asked them to fix. They are not truthful and cost way too much to even look at your car. They also stole my VW symbol off the engine cap. Why would they possibly want to take that?

General Comments:

Car drives very well and handles great is bad weather.

Comfortable seats and lots of trunk space.
