2001 Volkswagen Jetta GLX VR6 from North America

Summary:

I would not recommend buying a GLX VR6 Jetta, it's a waste of money

Faults:

After first buying the car, my transmission went. $3,000.00.

My driver side window would not go up after putting it down, had to have it replaced. They said the clip had broken.

My radiator was bad. $600.00.

I had to have my coolant line redone at the dealership, then a week after they were suppose to have replaced it, my engine blew up so I had to replace my engine. $690.00 Coolant line $5965.00 for Engine.

The heater coil has gone out in my car so now I have to rely on my heated seats in the winter. The cost of that is $1500.00 but I just don't have the money to fix it after all my other problems with the car.

Fuses are constantly going out.

My dash light has gone out. I thought I would be an easy fix by replacing the bulb. I was surprised to hear from the dealership it is a $500.00 fix.

Gas has to be at least 91 grade so I have to put premium unleaded in my car at all times.

Lights are always coming on the dash.

General Comments:

I am very disappointed with this car and I don't think I'll ever buy a Volkswagen again. If my loan wasn't upside down I would have traded it in by now.

All these prices you gave are very high. I've been fixing my car and it cost me very very lower than your prices.

2001 Volkswagen Jetta from North America

Summary:

Very good looking car, seems to have a lot of mechanical issues

Faults:

Front bumper keeps popping off.

Vinyl is tearing apart inside.

Engine light came on today.

Crayon smell in the car whenever the air is on.

Grinding noise when turning.

Brakes already wore out.

General Comments:

I can't believe all the problems everyone is having and how similar they are to the ones I have. I owned a 96 Camaro before this car, bought brand new, and had fewer problems in the 9 years I owned it than I have in the 9 months I have owned this car. I am scared to death to see what the problem is when I go to the Volkswagen dealership today.

2001 Volkswagen Jetta GLX VR6 from North America

Summary:

Fun car, great looks, pricey routine up keep

Faults:

Brake light sensor staying on, windows dropping (the plastic clip breaking), another sensor that caused the gear shift not to move into R or D.

General Comments:

Each of the above were repaired no cost by the dealership. There was a workaround for the gear shift not engaging (move the gear shift as you turn the ignition key)

Other that the above problems, tires still in good shape, brakes pads are at 70/60. no head lights, tail lights or anything have been replaced. Windshield wipers still good.

Owners manual is terrible for do it yourself maintenance.

My Husband dislikes it!!!

Faults:

Since about 2 years ago;I've had difficulty with the check engine light coming off/on.I've since taken it into the Dealership for Analyzing & they've have never been able to pin point the problem. I have replaced :Mass air flow sensor, gas filter, Clutch switch, Fuel pressure regulator, along with keeping up with oil changes. As I too baby my car.I'm disappointed that I have spent so much money trying to get it fix. My car is still sitting in my garage "Non functional",as I am having problem getting it started.

72k on a 1.8t. Have you experienced any oil lights? It might be time just to give up on it.

2001 Volkswagen Jetta GLS TDI from North America

Solid, comfotable, safe, and cheap to drive!!

Faults:

Power windows failed, dealer repaired under factory recall.

Check the recommended timimg belt change frequency for your year, this is expensive.

Very good quality, ride, but a bit small for a family. We get 40+ mpg on the highway doing 75-85 mph!!!

Synthetic oil every 5k, no problems.
