2002 Volkswagen Jetta GLS Wagon 2.8L VR6 from North America

Summary:

A great value for a wonderful car!

Faults:

The only thing that I have had go wrong with this car isn't the car's fault. When the dealer was detailing the car they somehow smashed the windshield. So they ordered a new one for me and had it installed. I took delivery 2 days later, but with a 6 disc changer installed for my "troubles"

General Comments:

This is my 4th VW and I haven't ever had trouble with them, other than routine maintenance. Compared to my old Toyota Corolla, this thing is a rocket. Once you drive a VW everything else feels like you are driving a big old boat.

Seats are very comfortable, they catch lint a lot more than other cars, but I spend Sunday Mornings cleaning the cars anyway so they stay clean. You've got to baby the VW!

The blue interior lights are awesome.

There are a lot of complaints about the Jetta on this website, but I have never come close to anything like what I've read. Of my friends, we've owned 27 VW's and each one of us would buy another in a heart beat. I don't know what is happening to those vehicles, but I assume that people only speak up if something negative happens.

Oh well, buy a VW and enjoy your wonderful car!

My wife and I have had a number of VWs (77 Rabbit Diesel, 80 Rabbit Diesel, 82 Cabrio, 87 Jetta Turbo Diesel, 98 Passat 1.8T, currently a 94 Cabrio and a 2002 Jetta TDI Wagon).

I agree wholeheartedly with the above review. After 50,000km we still think the 2002 Jetta TDI Wagon is a wonderful car. Well thought out, well appointed, well built. It is light years ahead of the 87 Jetta Turbo Diesel in so many ways.

Since May, there has been a marked increase in the cost of gas (but not diesel). I've taken a great deal smug satisfaction in my colleagues complaints of high fuel prices and lousy mileage...

The only complaint, actually more of a wish, is directed at VW. There are many TDI options available in Europe that have not made it across the pond (4Motion, 6 speed transmission, TDI sport packages etc). If we were all to say 'pretty please' together perhaps VW management might just change their minds.

I agree that people speak up when they have negative things to say. I just bought one and reading these reviews make me nervous, but most people would not write if it was not bothering them.

I purchased a 2002 Jetta from new. I am very disappointed with the quailty from VW. The car has been in under warranty numerous times and now the warranty is up the problems continue. There will NEVER be another VW in my driveway. What a disappointment.

Summary:

A nice driving experience with a few problems

Faults:

One of the coils died while I was traveling and I had to get it towed and repair. I was told that VW did not make a vulontary recall for this problem, but defective pieces would be replaced free of charge.

A noise is coming from the front left suspension and I told my dealer about it. They used lubricant on suspension parts, but the noise is still present. I will have to tell them about it on my next visit.

My radio went off and the next day, with no explanation from my dealer on this particular problem, it started to play again???

General Comments:

This car has a superb handling and a pretty good engine. It is fun to drive, but the amount of problem may erase the smile from your face.

Rear seats are not roomy enough, but they're at least comfortable.

I would recommend this car for people who like nice driving experience and do not care about driving it to the dealer to get it repaired!

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Don't Know
