2006 Volkswagen Jetta Wolfsburg Edition from North America - Comments

"Strong value and pleasant to drive"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

No problems, but it is too early to tell. Wanted to get the ball rolling on the 06 model lines in case someone is looking for more information on them.

General comments?

The car handles well, but is not particularly powerful. It is just adequately powered and moves down the road nicely.

It has a very taut and heavy feel to it, more so than its size would suggest.

I do not like the pedal arrangement, the entire assembly is too far to the right (or to the left for those who are right side driving I would imagine). The clutch pedal is straight down the middle of the steering wheel. There is a nice dead pedal though, oddly.

Also, the clutch and throttle don't mix well. Meaning, the pressures of the two don't match either the travel of the clutch pedal or the revving of the engine. The engine is not particularly frree reving, so I would actually like a heavier pedal to match it. You feel like you have enough throttle to launch the car in first, and as you let off the clutch you realize you are barely above idle speed and stall it. I drive manuals primarily, so its not a beginner's problem. Just feels like it.

Otherwise, the car is a good value for the money. I leased this car, and the warranty outlasts the lease by 9 months.

The Wolfsburg is a value oriented option package today, not a performance package. It comes with 16" wheels, a sunroof, "leatherette" seats that look and feel like leather, thick rubber floor mats, heated seats and mirrors, a deck spoiler, 6 CD in dash CD player, and Wolfsburg badges which are frankly not as cool as the old ones with the little castle. These just say "Wolfsburg Edition".

I am very pleased so far and drive it every day.

The seats are extremely comfortable.

The car has a "near luxury" feel to it, and the interior materials are overall very nice except the sun visors which are very cheap feeling to the touch.

The climate controls are very intuitive and easy to use.

I will update this review should I have any problems. I have found this website useful to use in the past. I am eager to see how well this car holds up over the course of the lease as I am sure many readers are.

Very interested. Please keep site updated. Good reviews.. finally some good info rather than just "good car."

I posted the original review on this model, which is actually an 07. When I originally posted it, the system would not accept 07 as an input.

I have driven 3000 miles to date. So far, I have had no problems with the car and it has seemed to break in a little, providing a bit more spirited driving. I have also taken the tachometer past 3000 to 3500 which I had not before, and it makes a huge difference in the capabilities of the 2.5 liter engine. However, it continues to be a slower revving, industrial feeling unit. If I could change one thing it would have been opting for the 2.0t engine, but the price point change is as radical as the upgrade in horsepower.

Not so for the rest of the car, which continues to be a very comfortable and pleasing car to drive. It also gets noticed, which surprised me, but was a welcome surprise nonetheless.

Wow! Great detailed information. I just purchased one a couple days ago. I must definitely agree with you on the pedal set up. I too have been driving manual for years. It's taken a little getting used to the pressures of the pedals as you put in great detail. Besides that, that car has keep up with my expectations in all aspects. I've lived in Germany for 3 years now, and I have driven the best German engineering has to offer. This car hands down gives you that fine tuned German autobahn handling for a great price. For the value, i'd take it over the Audi A4 2.0T any day. It'll keep up with the rest of them no problem.

Once again, I am updating my review. I have had occasion recently to put almost 1500 miles on the Jetta over the course of four days, and will continue to put high miles on the car due to a job change over the next month.

The total mileage on the car is now 9000 over 7 months. My new discoveries are that the oil filter is a little more expensive (at $25) than average, and that the new Jetta is an incredible car for touring. The seats remain comfortable over very long periods of time and the air conditioning is powerful, sometimes too powerful and must be turned off even on days over 100 degrees F.

I have had one service incident involving a nail in a tire, which was resolved with a patch installed by the dealer with no charge.

The Jetta is a very well handling car. My recent travels have involved several hours on rural, two lane highways with several curves and hills, and this car does instill confidence. It has impressed me several times on this issue. I have to say the only continuing issues with the Jetta are that it is slow in acceleration, and that I have yet to fully get used to the clutch and throttle pedal feels. Otherwise, a great car still. I'll post more when I learn more.

I am the original poster of this review and I have now put over 20K miles on this new 07 car in less than one year. It is still a joy to drive. My friends have continued to compliment its interior, particularly when the lights are on at night. No service problems, has yet to let me down in any category. I like it more now than I did when I bought and I liked it when I bought it. Still looks new inside and out, but I am the only driver and that helps.

I posted the original review and update it periodically. At this point, I have driven the Jetta 30K miles in one and a half years. Not one problem yet, and it remains reliable and comfortable.

This is not an economy car with respect to mileage, the mileage is pretty much average, mid 20's on the highway. I still love the car.

Original reviewer checking in again. I am now at 33,000 miles and driving the car less as the lease nears the end and I am getting close to the mileage limit. However, I did have some dealer service recently. There was a recall with respect to the headlights, which was rectified at no cost, and the airbag light was stuck on in the dash light array, and was also remedied at no cost.

The dealer service experience was great. They were very busy, with many Audi and VW vehicles coming in for service, but I was taken care of quickly, the problems were solved, and I picked the car up that afternoon and it had been washed.

No problems since. Car continues to function well and is wearing the miles well. Still a great car. I probably won't buy the car at lease end as the warranty expires and I have other transportation, but it has been a great experience.

Wow. I'm looking into buying an 07 Volkswagen Jetta, Wolfsburg Edition. I have to thank you for all of your comments and updated on this page. You have honestly made my decision a lot easier. It was up in the air for the 07 or a 2006 Jetta, Package #1, which includes leather seats and whatnot. I was worried about the 'leatherette' seating, but seeing that you do a lot of driving makes me feel better knowing it's comfortable. Thank you again for taking the time to put such detail into your review. It's appreciated!

I am the original poster, and I am returning with an update. So far, the car has had no mechanical problems and is at 36K miles. The car remains comfortable and performs as it should. The only problem I have is the rear seating surface in between the two seats and under where the arm rest would be shows wear. I do not use the back seat, for people or for cargo, except very rarely. The seat surface should not be losing color or leatherette texture, but appears worn for some reason.

I will be re-dying the area before lease turn-in. Otherwise, still no problems and a great car.
