I'm intending to buy a VW Touran 2.0 FSI. Please, any advice on it?

I have a 2005 VW Touran Sport that will not select any gear but reverse and 6. It has completed 228,000 miles and has been trouble free to be honest.

My 2006 Touran auto (59000 miles, fully serviced) is occasionally cutting out when in reverse gear.

It only happens when NOT accelerating in reverse. I.e. when I'm simply letting the car reverse slowly.

Is this a sign of the famous Touran gearbox problems kicking in?

As I have only had the car for 3 months, I am worried that this will be a lot of cash wasted, and I can't really afford that.

Recently bought an 05 Touran second hand with a mileage of 91000 from Japan I serviced the car immediately, and I have noticed that it jerks when shifting from 2nd to 3rd gear, as if I have been hit from behind. And also from from 3rd to 2nd when slowing down; what could be the problem?

Mine is intermittently doing the same. Did you get a fault diagnosis? Similar mileage and age.

Hi.

A friend has Touran 2005 automatic with the same kicking problem in the gearbox. He took it to the service workshop specifically for that issue and they advised him to change one or two valves in the gearbox.

Hi there.

I have a 2005 VW Touran auto 2.0 TDI; keeps slipping out of gear and going into slow mode.

I would like a quote for a reconditioned auto gearbox and clutch for my VW Touran 2005 2.0 diesel auto.

It keeps slipping out of gear and going into some sort of slow mode; sometimes all the gear position lights come on and there is no gear at all.

I'm assuming the gearbox is on its way out, so it probably needs replacing.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Chris.

Hi there.

I have 2006 Touran 1.9 TDI. Have had my car for two years now and never had any major problems until late last year when one of my boost pipes popped. Replaced it and three months later popped again; then I went back to VW and they replaced the pipe. About a month later that also popped. Then I decided to do my own investigation and replaced my own pipe, just to find out the bracket on the cooler that keeps it in place was loose, which could possibly be due to poor workmanship. Then my new pipe lasted a few months, and popped again; by then I was clueless also to find out that if your cat-converter is blocked, especially on high mileage vehicles, it pushes air back up to the turbo and that pressure causes the pipe to blow on its weakest spot.

Then thinking that's my biggest problem, I then started hearing a tapping noise; not sure if from the engine or a leaking boost pipe. Had it checked out by a diesel mechanic, which I had to replace my camshaft and lifters; apparently it needs to be done after every 150 000km.

Then I decided to take a road trip +/- 2000km. While doing about 130kph, I just felt a little bump and few minutes later something popping out at the back, then an oil leak... my first thought was something went wrong with the camshaft replacement, but then I could smell its gearbox oil. Not sure where it's leaking, but in between the engine and the gearbox, judging from the wetness and slight drips, but it actually leaks a lot after topping it up. With that another boost pipe had blown, due to a bracket that came loose, which is also weird.

My worry is, do I need to replace the gearbox? Also the car is driving fine, just when in reverse it makes a grinding sound. I'm hoping it's just a seal as I'm tired of surprises and this is starting to cost a lot of money.
