1992 Volvo 940 Turbo 2.3 turbo from North America

Summary:

It'll hit 300,000 miles easily without major repairs, in my opinion

Faults:

I had to have a bit of front end work done because I didn't keep up with regular lubrication, since I was doing oil changes myself at home. Other than that, I've had regular maintenance performed at 30,000 mile intervals since new by the dealer, until the car hit 100,000 miles, Then, I went to a reputable independent repair shop for service. I bring the car to the Volvo dealer once every two years, to catch anything the independent shop might miss. This has been the most reliable car I've ever owned. It now has a mild valve or crank bearing knock first thing in the morning that clears up in about five minutes. Burns one quart of oil about every 1500 miles. This car has seen 50,000 miles of NYC driving, has climbed logging roads through the mountains, and everything in between. It refuses to die.

General Comments:

The ride is a bit stiff, but the car feels solid as a rock.

So. Why the blue un-smily face? Sounds like you love it.

I agree with the last post - I don't know why there's the sad face. Is the faces in regards to HOW the review is written, or the owner's overall review of the vehicle?

The happy and sad faces are based on whether the reviewer answered yes, no, or don't know to the question "Would you buy another car from this manufacturer?"

1992 Volvo 940 GL estate 2.0 non turbo from UK and Ireland

Summary:

A real pleasure to drive

Faults:

Electrical fault on dashboard - warning lights used to go out - Re-soldered joint on back of meter block.

Overdrive relay.

General Comments:

A very comfortable car. An absolute pleasure to drive - diff lock helps in snow and ABS braking is superb. Automatic gearbox changes smoothly and at sensible speeds.

Despite it's enormous size its very easy to manipulate into tight spaces.

Really useful for carting things about (mattresses, fence panels, wardrobes) No need to have anything delivered again! Probably the best luxury van on the market!

Despite it's age all the extras work.

The only thing I don't like is the performance. Most of the time it's adequate, but occasionally you put your foot down and you think "It doesn't have enough go -needs a turbo" But it will do 80 all day.

1992 Volvo 940 GL 2.3 non turbo from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Comfort and space are unbeatable

Faults:

Lots of strange 'electronic' faults, eventually traced to a faulty crankshaft sensor.

Speedometer became intermittent at about 120,000, dry solder joint in the dashboard.

Electric aerial has never worked properly.

Lumbar adjustment in the driver's seat broke at 130,000.

General Comments:

Have owned many Volvos in the past, this one has had more faults than others, but nearly all due to 'electronic' problems.

Seats are really comfortable - great car for long distance motor-way driving.

Loads of space - a great 'rubbish' carrier!
