In over 300,000 miles I have had to replace the timing belt, alternator, and fuel pump. That's it.
I can't stand looking at this car any more. My butt has been in it for over 300,000 miles. Unfortunately, it goes as smooth as the day I bought it 13 years ago, and looks just as shiny. It just won't die, it won't even give a hint of dying, and it's easily good for another 300,000 if I can stand it. I keep thinking I need to get another car, but...why? No rust, no issues, just solid solid solid reliable cost-free transportation.
Have you ever read the book called "Shibumi" by Trevanian? Your attitude toward your Volvo very much reminded me of those of the main character and his gardener attitude toward his Volvo.
I used to kick mine and it wouldn't die either ;) Great book.
