Since buying the car new in 1972 I have done all of the usual maintence, brakes, exhaust system, tires, alternator, etc., but had only two major repair jobs. That was a complete transmission rebiuld in about 1984, and a suspension overhaul in about 1992 resulting in the restoration to original ride height.
This car was purchased by my father and given to me as a high cchool graduation gift. Sticker price was $4,420.00. After getting married we drove this car as our family car until 1986 when I bought a second car. My son and one of my daughters drove it as a school car until 2-10-99 when I finally traded it for a 92 T-Bird for her to drive. It had over 150000 hard miles and never had a wrench on the engine and still didn't need any work. The body was badly rusted or I probably would have kept it longer. Excellent car for the money. I'm still mourning its passing.
Would be interested in hearing more about your '72 LeMans Sport GT. I too am an owner of the same rare Pontiac. Have had little luck in finding information about this car.

I am a proud owner of a 1975 pontiac lemans sport gt coupe special Canadian edition. cost of this car back then was $4,400canadian.The discriptions of the car is unmistakable, with the red and white color and sport stripes and the maple leaf`s on either side of the doors and trunk and the gt logo`s to go with it. Most of my info I have on this car came from GM OF CANADA. Contact them for A cost of $40.00 they will send you a detailed info on number made as well as options. Hope this was helpful.
I have a 1970 Pontiac Lemans GT Convert with a 400 BBL Completely done, I will never sell unless I am offered at least 40,000 US. These are very rare cars. Probably less than 10 left in North America, if that.
Hello, I am a owner of a auto restoration shop and we are working on a 1972 convertible Le Mans GT with 455 H.O. engine and auto transmission. I am looking for other owners of this model to talk to. I need information about the rally stripe package and GT decal kit. Please e-mail me if interested in talking to me about this car. TWORICK@INETNEBR.COM.
The car I truly loved, and want to replace.
Had no idea what I had, and move forced sell.
I would REALLY hope to see more posts here for those with
a SPECIFIC 1972 LeMans GT. After YEARS of selling, I am
truly sad that I ever sold. Red, with the GOLD reflective
stripe, a factory Hurst 3spd., and assumed 350 2Bl. that previous owner swapped for a "66" 389. Tan interior , standard bench seat. Had the wide vertical side vents on front fenders, good nose, and standard hood & wing.
More sadly, I gave it away for $$.
Appreciate the post regarding the production rate info.
Great reference. So, if ANYONE would kindly point me to
one of the other 7,000+ potential standard GT w/ Hurst 3spd.
I would GLADLY take a basic 350/2bl just fine. 400 +++++
And will drive ANYWHERE to pick it up.
LOOKING VERY HARD!!!

Hello, I just bought a 72 lemans with the gtosetup on the front, its got the gto hood and front end, is that a factory option or self modified? My lemans has a 65 corvette 327.30 over, it has 1 of the largest cam made and curently has 461 camel back heads with a holley 850 carb and a Wiand Intake manifold, tranny is a 350 turbo with a B&M shift kit and a B&M Mega shifter, the dyno sheet says 420 hp as it sits, the paint was done buy a buddie that owed a favor, it's a metalic purple that turns blue, was told it (would) cost 3k, also has a 12 bolt 442 rear end in it, I bought this car for $1000 CDN and would like to know more about the history, email me at starrkeith@hotmail.com.
I'm looking into purchasing a '72 Le mans 4 door/hard top. The previous owner brought the car 2 years ago and has totally restored it. She has also made several modifications, such as changing the style or brakes and switching to dual exhaust. The car has 45,000 miles. She is asking a negotiable $6,500 US dollars.
My questions to any readers of this comment:
1) If you currently own or have previously owned this car I would be interesting in finding out what specific problems you have had, and any particular perks you experienced with this car.
2) This will be my second car, but the first one I am purchasing myself. So if any experienced classic car buyers or owners have any advice for me I would be more than happy to hear it. I am especially having trouble with calculation the condition, mileage, repair and restoration costs into how much I should be paying for the car.
Any comments are appreciated.

I had a 1975 Pontiac Le Mans GT Sport Coupe. This was a Canadian car. It came with a 350 small block. I still have a few pics of the car. It was wrecked in 1982, hit by a drunk driver. These Canadian Gt are now hard to fine. Last time I was in Canada looking to buy one I had no luck. Just a classic car for it's time.
Bug!
LeMans! Not just another GTO. Poor man's GOAT! No More clones!
Sorry about that... I just had to vent a little. I am currently working on a 1972 LeMans with the factory endura option, and the optional side stripes. Sundance orange with white interior and white vinyl top. I just started the teardown, and I am really interested in finding LeMans door panels and maybe some good white seats too. Front bench seat. I owned a 1970 LeMans in 1987. It was Verdero green with green interior. When I bought it from the little old lady it had 60,000 miles on it. I paid 300.00 dollars for it. I have many memories with these cars and am really looking forward to the aforementioned resto. I am going frame up. I don't want to substitute GTO parts for LeMans stuff. I am having a hard time finding aftermarket upholstery stuff for the LeMans'. I would love to hear from all LeMans owners. Send some pics!

I have had a 1972 Luxury LeMans which was given to me in 1987. I keep it in my barn where it sits for a couple of months at a time until I start it up and drive around the block. I know this isn't the best thing for it, but it's still alive. I do change the oil once a year and it always passes inspection. The 350 never fails to start even with my abuse! The body needs work and paint, but the interior (with bench seats) is good to excellent. The locals respect the vehicle and someone always wants to buy it. Does anyone have any history on the '72 LL?
Thanks, Bill----bgucfa@moheganmail.com.
This survey needs to stretch back before 1972!!!
I have a 1966 LeMans (yes, that's how to cap LeMans, as it's a French term), 2 DR, HT, sliver-grey mist paint and black accents. It has the 4bbl OHC "Sprint" 6 cyl. w/4-speed. She was a great sounding and running car up till about 150k miles when the smoke started. If made today, I'd pony-up again in a moment. Presently, it's under a tarp in the back yard with 176k miles on the clock.
I have a 350 (325 HP 10.75:1 from a 68 'Bird) to put in as soon as the garage finishes. The trans will be a strenthened BPO 4-speed AOD I dropped out of a 82 Olds. It may not quite get to the 24-26 MPG the 6 got on the road, but I will have more scoot in the mountain canyons and an easier time in town letting the automatic worry about the gears.
One surprise: the 203 inch-long, 115 inch wheelbase beasty weighs only 3300 lbs.! A new 2003 Bird w/V6 is 3500! (And look which is better made, snicker.) I love 60's iron.
