"A Piece of Junk, Don't buy this car"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Changed rotors & pads three times in two years.

My fuel gage is now staying full until I drive 160 KM on the take of gas. I have ran out of gas for three times while my gas gage says still I have a quarter left. I had towed away my cars for two times and dealer says this problem does not cover 5 years power train warranty. Now I fill up gas based upon trip odometer.

I am experincing a problem with suspension with a loud squeak every single time I drive over a bump.

The entire wire system is hay wire. Light flicker continue makes noise. The tail lights continue to go. During the storm, the water left out in the systems and burned out all the bulbs.

Cooling system leaks, overheating the car, Replaced thermostat, water pump, intake gasket., cost me about $900.00. Problem started again last week, cooling leaking, overheating car, cooling fan does not work. I don't know how much it will cost to fix it.

Two weeks ago change the tension & belt, cost me about $ 480.00

Fuel tank lights comes on all the time, few times I open the fuel tank's lid and close it. It went away and came back, Took to the dealer, changed the sensor, Same problem still there.

I had also replaced the front wheel bearings.

Air Conditioning blower will not work on 1 & 2.

General comments?

I have had the several problems & I think the Chevrolet should recall and fix all the problems. This is a brand new car I had purchased and I am still paying the loan money. New car should last atleast five years without major problems.

If you acquired the car with that many miles on it, there's no telling how the previous owner/owners treated the car. Anybody who knows anything about cars, and takes care of them, can make them last a lot longer. They could also recognize problems the car already has, before they purchase it and blame all their problems on Chevrolet.

The truth is that Chevrolet should recognize that everyone is having the same problems. My 2000 Malibu has the following problems:

Blinkers work only about once a week.

Coolant level keeps getting low.

Rattling noise every time there is a small bump in the road.

A/C switch will not stay on recirculating air and always switches to outside, stinky air.

If General Motors would recognize that they designed some shoddy parts, they should be recalled. I will not purchase another Malibu that is for sure.

1998 Chevy Malibu: Have had an assortment of repair work needed on this vehicle and every mechanic that I have talked to says that they see a lot of the Malibu's in their shops. The coolant system leaking seems to be universal even from comments on this page. My vehicle has an incredible rattle that has a tendency to increase in volume with the air conditioning on and when the vehicle is idling. Noise seems to decrease somewhat when vehicle stops idling. Chevy mechanics say that they have seen this more than a time or two and generally it has to do with some tension belt something. My car only has 70,000 miles on it and I've been the only owner. I was hoping to double that mileage, but I'm beginning to think my expectations for this particular vehicle are too high and considering a new vehicle purchase.

I own two of these, a 2000 and a 2001 I maintain them very well and drive a considerable amount of miles. Both were bought new and both have over 80,000 miles. I too have had to replace the blower resistor switch in both cars, one of them twice. The dealer has been wonderful, working with me and adjusting his part of the charges. My issue is not with the cars or the dealer, but with "CAC", the Chevrolet customer "NO" service center. I submitted the information asking for some guidance, not even demanding my money, just what they though they might do. It took 5 months to work out the fact that they don't know what they're doing. They called and asked me to prove ownership of the car. I finally said I had too much time and to just log me in the record aa dissatisfied. They did and sent me a coupon for a free oil change. I will use it, but my dealer sells Chrysler's too and that is what I am purchasing from now on. JG.

I have a 2000 Malibu that I bought new, with only 7 miles on it. I have had a series of problems with this car, mainly with the cooling. I have replaced the water pump and thermostat twice with factory parts both times. My water pump has again just gone out, however, this time I will be replacing it with an aftermarket part. I have experienced several problems with the A/C. The interior dashboard switch has gone out twice, and I am now having to replace a relay switch. I have a positive attitude toward the Chevrolet brand of vehicle, however, I believe that there are some serious issues relating to the 2000 production of the Malibu and will never again buy one of these vehicles. I am in the process now of replacing this car, however, there is little to no resale value on this car, and I will probably be stuck keeping it and parking it on the side of my house.

For the person giving up on GM to go to Chrysler... Good luck with that crap!! Chryslers, in general are worse than GM vehicle, statistically speaking. As a matter of fact, they are the worst in durability and reliability among all domestic makes according to Consumer Reports rankings. I would recommend a foreign make, but if you're the domestic only-type I would go with Ford WAY before Chrysler gets any inkling of consideration from me!!
